Toronto | July 13 | Lucky 13 - Artworks by EGR & Esther



PARALLEL urban apparel, host to art shows, musical guests and events since the summer of 2001, presents works by EGR and Esther, both Toronto based artists known for their colorful depictions of women, showcasing vibrant new paintings and prints, with this girl-on-girl themed art show, titled Lucky 13. Featuring unique lowrider bicycles by BUDDA, alongside beats and pieces by DJ Fathom of SpinCycle. Opens Tuesday, . Runs through to August 13.

As an artist, illustrator, and muralist, EGR is inspired daily by the concept of visual language. With a background in street art, EGRs work refelects urban life and dreams through narrative and thought provoking scenes, with sexy and powerful characters from street thugs and divas to delicate fairies and angels. Her artworks have appeared in print, album covers, decks, animations and spraypainted murals; and Athletes World, Salon Selectives, Pontiac Vibe, Bacardi, Ecko, Burton, Universal and Sony Music have already caught on. Painting live on MUCHMusic, at the annual graffiti expos in Hamilton, Montreal, Toronto, Skydome and Vans Warped Tour, and having graced the cover of Atlantas Elemental Magazine, Torontos Pound Magazine, IRS album cover and also in BrassMunks animated video, El Dorado, which was nominated for a MMVA in 03; she has been illustrating regularly for Torontos newspapers including The Star and The Globe and Mail for over 6 years. EGR has shown her oil paintings and drawings at The Art Gallery of Ontario, ArtLab, Base Gallery, The NOW Lounge, MindControl and CAs Crewest Gallery, with spraypainted murals the ElMocambo Tavern, Currys Artist Materials, and Parallel apparel in downtown Toronto. Toronto based artist Esther Sanchez has been painting ever since her hands could hold a brush. With a group show under her belt at the tender age of 5, she continues to brighten the walls of homes and restaurants all over Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Madrid. Her unique style embraces her love of colour, fashion and eye catching patterns. Since earning diplomas in both Graphic Design and 3D Animation, Esther has been working as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. Some of her recent clients include Alliance Atlantis, Andy Poolhall, Minou, K-Jem Productions and Brianceau Entertainment. Her paintings have graced the walls of Zeldas Groovy Room, College Street Bar, The Rivoli, Ciao Edie, Wett Bar, Come As You Are, Sim and Jones and BMW Mini Downtown.
