Chicago | March 26 | "Riding A Coattail To Heaven: New Prints and Posters By Seripop"

Foundation Gallery opens below ground level with the work of Montreal based design/printing duo Serigraphie Populaire aka Seriop. In only two years of designing and hand printing, Chloe Lum and Yannick Desranleau have produced over 150 posters; their work has been published in dozens of culture magazines and in several poster/design annuals, books. Seripop has become a sensation spreading their name and aesthetic throughout the punk rock community and beyond.
The show consists of two unique bodies of work. The first is a series of 10 art prints - Seripop set out to make millions of characters to test their method of working, their printing techniques, their compulsion towards frenzied production and the manic dedication to making things. What they arrived at were prints that depict landscapes filled with thousands of birds, monsters, magical creatures and anamorphic beings. The inhabitants include 150 hand drawn birds assembled in unique patterns and several hundred paper doll monsters in 12-18 color silkscreen prints.
In addition to the silk-screened art prints, Seripop will also be premiering an entirely new endeavor. In January Seripop launched a year and a half “tour poster” project for which they will create a band’s entire tours worth of unique posters; a single design per each individual show for six different independent bands. By producing a different design for each date on the tour, Chloe and Yannick create an exercise in print production and generate creative challenges which emulates the constant pressure of a DIY independent tour The first posters from the project, for The Chinese Stars and Daughters [16 prints in all] will be debuted as an installation at Foundation Gallery.
