New York | October 16 | BIGFOOT "FOOT IN THE CITY"

BIGFOOT - FOOT IN THE CITY

"Stackhouse Gallery is proud to present a first time in New York solo installation exhibition by San Francisco based artist BIGFOOT.

In 1994 the urban landscape, started to change with sightings of BIGFOOT. The legend that embodies all that is wild, and unknowable within ourselves, and the world. Thus became the unmistakable tag of “BIGFOOT ONE.” Transforming the task of tagging into ritual, creating montages to honor nature's most unknown creature, BIGFOOT ONE has created a symbol the skating world has adopted for inspiration and reflection.

Originally from New Jersey, BIGFOOT fled to California to be closer to big trees, and to attend the San Francisco Art Institute. Disassociated with collegiate rigmarole, and human society, "BIGFOOT” began writing in the streets of San Francisco with relentless fury. He then teamed up with Matt Field to create the logo for I-Path footwear, and serves as creative director. Currently BIGFOOT is in the midst of his new personal line of T-shirts, clothing and accessories, called “BF1,” debuting 2003 in Japan and America. BIGFOOT works BIG, constructing wooden panels and uses house paint to make bold visual reminders of the power of nature. His symbolism primarily manifesting itself in the Wild West character, addresses the conflict between the respects for nature held by America’s indigenous peoples and the destructive agenda of the western conquest.

Hong Kong | October 3rd | PUBLIC RELATIONS (((A Retrospective of Advertising from Staple Design)))

"For the past half decade, Staple Design has created the most recognizable and influential advertising campaigns in recent memory. In its most simple form, they are ads that promote their clothing line, Staple and the firm's design services. But rather than using them to simply promote themselves, they use the public forum as a platform to speak directly to the masses.

The exhibition, titled, PUBLIC RELATIONS is a double meaning play on words. The general term given to people who work in the marketing and advertising field are commonly categorized as those who work in PR (Public Relations). But the questions remain, how are these people really relating to the public? What is the ³relationship² between the client and the general public? Are they using their voices for something significant? Or is it merely a form of subversive propaganda?

Staple's distinct, subtle style shows through in the design and art direction of the works to be displayed. The show, consisting of oversized mounted prints from past ad campaigns will include written commentary explaining the individual thought, process, and concept for each. With a private artist reception on October 4, 2003, it can be viewed from October 4 to November 2, 2003
