We're proud to announce that legendary photographer Jon Naar is the latest artist to participate in our "Wooster Special Edition" project. This new project follows sold out editions from such artists as Faile, Shepard Fairey, Space Invader, BAST, and Darius and Downey.

Most often when we ask a graffiti or street artist what their favorite book is, inevitably the answer will be: The Faith Of Graffiti

Published 35 years ago, The Faith Of Graffiti, is a meditation of tags, marks, concrete and trains. Legendary photographer Jon Naar captured a moment in history with the eye of a outsider combined with the precision of an architecture and design photographer. Norman Mailer wrote a text that is perhaps more relevant today than ever before.

Until now, Faith of Graffiti has been out-of-print and completely impossible to find. But this month Faith of Graffiti as been re-released in an expanded edition with new cropping and additional photos.

To celebrate the re-release of Faith Of Graffiti, Wooster Collective worked with Jon Naar to create an exclusive print in a numbered edition of 300. The "Wooster Collective Special Edition" includes both the signed print and a signed book.

From the publisher:

"This new edition of The Faith of Graffiti, the first in more than three decades, brings this vibrant work—the seminal document on the origins of street art—to contemporary readers. Photographer Jon Naar has enhanced the original with thirty-two pages of additional photographs that are new to this edition, along with an afterword in which he reflects on the project and the meaning it has taken on in the intervening decades."

If you've been reading the site for a while you know that we're huge fans of Blek Le Rat. At 66, Blek has played a seminal role in the rise of the urban art movement since the early 1980's. To this day Blek continues to influence artists from around the world.

A few months back when we received an advance copy of Blek's new book "Getting Through the Walls" we knew immediately that we wanted to do a Wooster Special Edition. Edited by Blek's wife Sybille Prou and King Adz, the photos in the book are spectacular.

So for what is by far our most elaborately produced Wooster Special Edition to date, we combined the the new book with an exclusive limited edition print of Blek's iconic image The Man Who Walks Though Walls, and placed them in a beautifully hand stamped box velvet box which makes this edition very special.

When we asked Blek about the Man Who Walks Though Walls, this was his response:

Wooster Collective: The man is you, correct?

Blek: Yes, it's me. The first time I pasted that image was during a trip to London in 2004. Putting the image up on the streets of London was a way for me to say to Banksy, "I have arrived." That's why the man has the suitcases in the image. It's me as the traveller. It represents that experience of arriving at a new city that you don't know but are open to discover. After this time in London, i started using this image in new cities that I would travel to everywhere in the world.

We're absolutely thrilled, as the first shipment of our forthcoming Wooster Special Edition (with Blek Le Rat) has just arrived at the office. Edition is of 300. It's by far the most beautiful thing we've produced with an artist from Wooster. Will have a few at Blek's opening (along with Doze Green) this weekend at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in Chelsea.

We're proud to announce that the Brazilian artist Alexandre Orion is the latest artist to participate in our "Wooster Special Edition" project. Alexandre follows sold out editions from such artists as Faile, Shepard Fairey, Space Invader, BAST, and Darius and Downey.

This new "Special Edition" combines Orion's wonderful book Metabiotica (which has not, until now been distributed outside of Brazil) with a one of a kind hand-cut stencil that is in itself a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

orbook2.jpg

Metabiotica is a collection of photographs of Orion's work on the street. The photographs are themselves amazing works of art and were chosen to show the very moment that people began to interact with his stenciled artworks. The result is a series of photographs that visually present the interaction between art and its environment, and contextualize Orion's work within a distinctly Brazilian cultural space.

The stencil is hand-cut by the artist and serves as a powerful document and artwork that gives a special insight and immediacy to the ephemeral world of street art. The stencil is a limited to 200 hand-made on thick eggshell color cardboard with the centerpiece of the stencil held together with strings and glue. The stencils are modeled after the actual stencils that Orion's used on the streets of Brazil to create images for the book. The 80 page book is written in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. The book is divided into three sections, the first describes Orion's concept of Metabiotica with stencil images accompanying the text. The second section is photos of the stencils on the street interacting with passerby's. The final section are photos of Orion's work inside buildings and galleries.

Both the book and print are 12"x12" inches. The book is softcover in a slipcase and is 80 pages in both black and white and color.

Both the book and stencil are signed by the artist and are priced together at $275 plus shipping.

The edition is limited to 200.

The first time we heard of Darius and Downey was more than seven years ago when Swoon told us that they were huge influences on her work. We did some research into their amazing street installations and have been huge fans ever since.

We're pleased to announce today that Darius and Downey are the subjects of the latest Wooster Collective Special Edition.

"The Adventures of Darius and Downey", just released by Thames and Hudson, isn't your average street art book. It follows the artists as they work, (don't) make rent, avoid arrest, go to school, move to England, break-up, scale buildings, and ultimately redefine the street art game for the 21st century. The well-illustrated book shows them working in a wide variety of mediums. It's one of our favorite books released this year.

The film "Public Discourse", offered online for the first time, is an intimate look at a community of street artists and features the work of Swoon, Shepard Fairey, Darius Jones, Adorn and Faile among many others with a score by Brooklyn favorites, Japanther. Shot in 2003, the film is more timely today than ever before.

The film is 47 minutes long. The book is 250 pages with loads of color photos.

Together the book and film is $50 USD plus shipping and handling.
