Wooster Follow-Up: Joshua Allen Harris' Inflatable Sculptures
The response we got after posting the inflatable bear photos last week was amazing. We couldn't be happier to follow it up with these two wonderful videos, shot and sent to us by the artist, Joshua Allen Harris.
After watching the videos, we love the project even more...

London's Mysterious Gold Bars

If you're in London, for the last couple of months you may have noticed mysterious gold bars that have been sited in various spots around town. Turns out that they've been placed there by Paul Insect. On Sunday he left a pile of 51 bars on Old Street roundabout, there until last night - gone this morning. Each bar and the pallet they're sitting on are signed by Paul with the line 'if you have me I was stolen'. We're told that the message is a comment on the "'liberating/stealing' of street art both physically and theoretically."
If you're not familiar with Paul's work, check out his upcoming show at the Lazarides Gallery. We've been fans for years.
Paul has a show opening later this month - http://www.lazinc.com/exhibitions/future/

Shit We're Diggin': Jason Taylor's Underwater Sculpture Park in Grenada, West Indies

"The aim of the Sculpture Park is to create a unique space which highlights environmental processes and celebrates local culture. By creating an artificial reef of sculptures which depict Grenadian peoples and their history, the project fulfils its dual purpose of protecting the marine environment and illustrating the richness of Grenada"
You can learn more about the project here.

New Work From Nick Georgiou

Nick Georgiou's meticulously hand stitched newspaper sculptures continue to blow our mind. He seems to be taking them to another level, giving them movement and integrating them into the environment. For us, Nick and Mark Jenkins - along with Brad Downey, Leon Reid, and Prune, are the absolute best "urban sculptors" working on the streets today.
More photos here on Nick's blog.

The Pursuit of Knowledge

The latest project from Leon Reid (aka Darius Jones) is called "The Pursuit of Knowledge" .
For the project, Leon worked alongside the students of Intermediate School 52 in Inwood NYC, helping each of them make life-sized duplicates of themselves from a combination of pvc pipe, newspaper and tape. School uniforms were then added to complete the effect.
After the sculptures were done, Leon then installed them on the ceiling of the main hallway. The theme of the piece is to promote an aggressive desire to learn with the students crawling around in pursuit of books..
The project was sponsored by Creative Arts Workshops for Kids (C.A.W.) and The School Based Health Clinic.

Every Picture Has A Story - The Tape Woman in Julianapark Utrecht (Netherlands),

From Zworkt:
"well, i could spawn a story about my frustrations of the Christmas spirit, about the masses of people herding around buying things, wishing each other things, and how in the end every person is locked up in him/herself. But in the end i just found a piece of chickenfence which i turned into a woman holding her child. I just wanted to make a wrapped up man to sit on our couch (which sits there now). I liked making it so much that i made more. Not very much meaning and everything, apply your own thoughts. I guess I like the way it pictures some way of a nesting instinct and how that is eating some of my friends."
On a side note, the piece stood there for about two days and then was kicked to death by some children.

The Girl In The Corner

Agnieszka is a 28 year old artist living in Poznań, Poland. She works at the Academy of Arts in Poznań as an assistant in the graphics workshop. Recently she wanted to place her work in a public space because, as she says, "it is the most honest form of artistic dialog."
She told us - "Śródka is one of the city's neighborhoods. Forgoten and deserted. Wondering through the streets of this neighborhood I found a hidden and forgotten courtyard. Extremely small (around 6m2), as if squeezed between tall, dark walls of houses. The place is very small, claustrophobic and filled with voices of pigeons. Frightening and in the same time charming, like taken out from a different world. In one of the corners I placed my white sculpture of a little girl. She was facing the wall with her face hidden in her hands as if she was playing "hide and seek".
I believe that this work had good response especially from from local society. It gave a lot of joy to local children. That was something! The atmosphere of this little court yard was amazing and I like to think that this little girl was already there, I just gave her a shape and form..."
