Last week while we were in Argentina, Tristan Rault
mentioned that he had a surprise for us. Well today we received a terrific gift
- a photograph of a “Wooster wall” that was done last weekend by Zear and
Dres.
Here’s Zear’s Bio:
The bio of a True Graffiti
Writer “Zear one”
I was born in Buenos Aires in 1967. In 1969, at the
age of 2 years old I left with my grandmother to The United States to my aunt’s
wedding and it was nowhere else than in New York, the Mecca of Hip Hop. Later,
due to familiar matters back in Argentina I ended up staying to live with my
aunt.
When I turned 12 I met this dude named DAVID who was into
graffiti already, his tag was ROZZONE and he is the reason why I got into
graffiti and started signing under the name of ZEAR. With the passing of years I
started meeting other graffiti writer’s, gaining style and respect and started
getting down in different graffiti crews like TC, CAC, NTA and RTW, which for
me, was an honor; it was the same crew the legendary writer’s like REVOLT and
ZEPHYR where down with.
In the year 1982 I was working for a company
that had all there business in HARLEM and THE BRONX. One day, during my
lunchbreak i stopped to eat at this schoolyard “JHS 13” in SPANISH HARLEM and
found out that school was no other than the famous HALL OF FAME, a place all
covered up with graffitis done by today’s legends of the old school: DEZZY DEZ,
SEEN, SKEME, PART, T-KID177 are only some names I remember; they were the reason
i started to bomb and practice piecing to one day be able to piece like them.
/>
In 1984 I came across ZAME, my cousin’s best friend who became later my
best friend and graffiti partner. One night while bombing the wall of the
swimming pool on 59th street between 10th and 11th Ave. I met RISK and he was
down with this crew called “FC” (FAME CITY) who started painting along with us
but police caught us and the three of us ended up in jail that night. As we
became good friends, he introduced me to WEST, president of the FC crew. From
then on we never separated again and they put me down with “FC” and the rest is
history in the making. Anyway with WEST we started to king the #1 subway line
and met Kaze from FBA CREW (FAST BREAKING ART) and invited us to be part of
“FBA”. In 1985 we were already the kings of the #1 line and in December 1985, FC
/ FBA finished the first 10 whole train on new year’s eve.
Our
meeting point was the famous ROCK STEADY PARK where I got to meet the mighty
ROCK STEADY CREW. One of them was DOZE (RSC-IBM-TC5 crew), POKE (RSC, TC-5, IBM-
Prez) and EPIC (RSC, TC-5, IBM). I have always been amazed by their unique style
and we ended up being good friends and we were all one (FC crew). The 1980’s were
the golden years of graffiti’s history and FAME CITY CREW, still one of the most
important crews in the world.
In the year 1991 I came back to
Argentina because of family reasons and ended up staying as I met my wife
Silvia, the mother of my two sons: Alan (9 years old) and Christopher (11 years
old).
In 2004, after visiting a lot of HIP HOP related places I met
Brujo at a party called Funkdamental. We kept in contact and he invited me later
on to an event about graffiti art and HIP HOP music where I met DRES from the R2
CREW. He motivated me a lot to go back to the walls, but my wife Silvia has
always been the strongest part, support and motivation behind my still burning
passion for graffiti.
Keeping in contact with my people from FC back
in USA I am trying to take argentinian graffiti and HIP HOP to the next level.
Given the power that i have in FC to recruit bombers I put down REK2 from Peru
and DRES from Argentina, a big starting line for argentinian graffiti. Ever
since me and Dres have been painting strongly til this day.
I have
been into the Hip Hop culture since i was very small and have gone thru a lot,
good and bad. But I will never regret what the Hip Hop culture has done and
given to me; a culture which now flows in my two boy’s veins who have been
learning for a couple of years now and growing to be future graffiti writers. It
is a great feeling for a father to see his seeds doing what he did almost 30
years ago…
One love.
