For us Dennis Hopper is not only an icon from such films as Easy Rider and Apocalypse Now, but also an incredibly important figure in the contemporary art world.

Recently Madsteez, after seeing Hopper’s latest exhibition at the Ace Gallery in Los Angeles, took it upon himself to contact the guy and do a portrait of him.

Madsteez writes - “I’ve seen a lot of shows and this is the most inspirational body of work I have ever seen. I wanted to do a portrait of him the same way he did portraits of his friends and people he was inspired by like Warhol and Lichtenstein.”

The 96” X 48” painting will be on display at his upcoming Chelsea art show which opens here in New York on January 31st.
