The other day we received

The other day
we received an amazing package of stickers and zines from PMH in London. We’d
become aware of his stuff from the STICK ‘EM UP book, and we’re
delighted to be getting some of his orginal, one-of-a-kind sticks.  They’re now
gracing the streets of lower Manhattan, so keep an eye out for them this weekend
if you’re in town. PMH was kind enough to send us the Q’s to our A’s.  One tip:
If you’re just starting to get into the street art scene, PMH’s list of
“favorite artists” should act as a primer for you. Check the links, there’s some
great stuff.

Wooster: How did you get started in creating
stickers for the street?

PMH: At the beginning I was in love
with street art, and I wanted to be a part of it. Sadly, its as simple as that.
I was seeing all manners of amazing pieces, stickers and other works, on the net
and magazines from around the world and I was a bit uninterested with what was
going on in London, especially when compared to NY or Paris. So I decided to get
off my ass and do something about it. I started racking up ‘signed for’ stickers
and CD face labels and there I began…..

Wooster. What
originally inspired you to do the different characters?

PMH:
All my stickers are limited editions of 1. Each sticker is hand drawn and
painted. This is due to both economics and personal values. I love the fact that
they are mini works of ‘art’ up for everyone to see, hand made pieces done with
care and attention rather than something knocked out at a printing shop in mass
numbers - that’s not my steez. I like to do things that are a little bit special
every time, I fear falling in the hole of when an artist becomes predictable and
boring. So I knew wanted to make my stickers individual, but I also wanted to
have a trademark design, something people semi-recognise, and I came up with
that design. The stickers are hand painted and by now I’ve done a fair few, the
design has mutated somewhat. It started off like heavy metal kids, then Mexican
bikers, now just long haired freaks. The design was actually based on a picture
of Harmony
Korine
.

Wooster: What does PMH stand for?

/> align= "left" hspace="10" vspace="5">PMH: Uh oh. ‘that’ question. Truth
be told it has no definition. It stands for whatever fits really. I got it from
writing. I liked writing ‘P’ and ‘M’ and the ‘H’ came from somewhere and it
stuck. Some people have said Post Millenial Heroes, but that’s too egotistical
for me. Its just PMH.

Wooster: What other street artists do
you most admire and why?

PMH: A lot! First, even though I
might not like their work I give everyone respect for contributing something and
making things interesting, and extra respect for going out there and doing it,
rather than just biting and ragging.  The list (in no order and probably
containing embarrasing omissions) is as follows - "http://www.semipermanent.com/exhibition/perksandmini.html">Perks, "http://www.kawsone.com/">Kaws, She

Wooster: What’s your favorite city, neighborhood, or
block, to post and/or to see street art?

PMH: The thing about
street art that I love is the random factor. Just walking down some random
street and seeing a fly poster, throw up or sticker in the most unlikely of
places - it always puts a smile on my face and a kick in my step. So I think my
answer will have to be anywhere where its up and seen! But to properly answer
your question, well,  I live and put up in London so naturally that’s my hotspot
(east London, because the councils are slack when it comes to buffing). I love
Paris too. Love Love Love the Paris scene. And the net is great as well.

Wooster: What inspires you now?

PMH: Its such
a cliched answer but everything inspires me - films, love, friends, travel,
books, weed, music. If I had to give a rundown of specifics hitting up my spot at
the moment….. ‘City of god’ film, Paris (going over in April), getting old rolls
of photos developed, those dope new camera phones, my "http://www.farley.com/school/vintage/shoes/nikebbshoes/nike_vandal1.htm">nike
Vandals
, drinking HARD, finding this Wooster site, the oncoming of summer,
rediscovering Lasagne, London starting to blow up, LWK crew, seeing a lovely
lady (sam),  the dirtbombs, being a part of a pub darts team, the new Bhangra
scene, the future….....

BONUS QUESTION: What are you currently
working on? Can you give us a sneak peek?

PMH: I have many
plans (like everyone else I’m sure) to take over the world. For my plans to work
I have assumed many alias’ to make it happen - so keep your eyes peeled….. I
have an interview coming online soon for "http://www.spinemagazine.com"> Spine Magazine with will bankhead who is
part of the awesome mo wax design team. I will be contributing (hopefully Dom!)
to the new and improved "http://www.stickernation.net">stickernation.net site.  I do Fanzines (under
the yellow fingers imprint), and have 2 in the pipeline - childrens drawings of
classic record sleeves and another on billboard decay, as well as my Fanzine
version of ‘mass appeal meets relax’ called the dilly.  I’m in the process of
getting screen printing time for some super rad fly posters - b-boy tigger and
scare bears, as well as knocking off some tee and sweats. Some art
collaborations on caps too. I’ve just done my first fashion shoot for a new
girls clothing label which Is kinda like Silas but more rude girl. I have two
scripts constantly being written - B2 and the contact.  Me and mysterious al are
gonna put out a 7” of a punk band which is punks answer to ‘the streets’. My
friends got a commission for some jewellery so I’m helping design the packaging
and display units. I gotta contribute some work for href="http://www.faesthetic.com">faesthetic, and if I can get off my ass I
have a shot of getting in the new scrawl book. I wanna put up a big art show
this year with my crew LWK which would be of the hook - Definatly kick London
into gear (and we’re putting on some bar nights soon in London town). Oh yeah
and ill still be Mad on stickers and posters of course (and that elusive pipe
dream of getting a web site up and running). Phew! That’s it I think…I
think….for now…...
