Maya Hayuk
Many of you might know or recognise the work of
New York-based artist Maya Hayuk but as yet we haven’t seen her work on Wooster
Collective. Relentlessly populist in her approach to making and disseminating
art, Maya hand paints stickers and comics which she distributes anonymously. One
of her most appealing images is her trademark pink donuts which she either hand-
paints onto walls or prints or draws onto stickers.
Maya is a member
of the Barnstormers and has collaborated
with artists such as 9th Concept, Banksy and Graphic Havoc to name a few.
Recently back from Barcelona she sent me some pictures of a night out drawing
with Freaklub, an amazing barn she painted in North Carolina in September 2003
alongside a fantastic shot of one of her donuts painted in Brooklyn (one of my
favourite images in the up-coming book).
