Jose Parla at the Chelsea Art Museum
/>Congratulations to Jose Parla who last
night had an amazing opening here in New York at the
href="http://chelseaartmuseum.org/">Chelsea Art Museum. For
href="http://chelseaartmuseum.org/exhibits/2004/hollywoodtothestreet/">“Hollywoo
d to the Street: From the Poster to Graffiti” Jose created two massive
murals called “Conversations with Rotella” The show runs through January 29,
2005 so if you are in New York you should definitely check it out. In addition
to Jose’s work, the show consists of a terrific collection of work from
href="http://www.mimmorotella.it/">Mimmo Rotella, dating back to the 1950’s.
Last night’s opening, which also celebrated the US launch of
Nicholas Ganz’s excellent book Graffiti
World, was a terrific event that brought out a diverse group of New York’s
finest artists. Amongst the crowd were
href="http://www.faile.net/">Faile (who recently released their terrific
book Lavender), Andrew Sutherland, Howard
from Soundlab (just back from Amsterdam), Kenji Hirata,
href="http://www.urbanskills.ch/artists/rostarr/">rostarr, SERF, and a ton
of others. We didn’t bring our camera so we don’t have any photos to show today
(the image above is one of Jose’s other works) but hopefully someone will send
us some soon. Jose’s work is incredibly rich in texture and themes. This

on the Chelsea Art Museum site describes it very well.
