Fresh Stuff From… mayb

“here some picks of a project on which I worked
the last weeks. It’s a shout out to all people walking in public space. A shout
out which will disapear in time. the he is a shout out to all who pass at the
time the snow is not melting yet. the ‘welkom’(means welcome) has been placed
before people’s doors. So when they come out the see the welcome sign as a
welcome to public space”... mayb

mayb - The Vitals:

Age: I am 20
/>Hometown: I grew up a small city in the south-west of
Holland.
Where do you live now?: At the moment I live in
Den Bosch. That’s in the south of Holland as well.
How long have
you been creating street art?:
For about 2 years I make things that you
might consider as ‘street art’. The last 6 months I’ve been making most of my
better pieces of work.
What did you do last night?: I
made some new stickers and some big posters.
What is your favourite
thing to eat for dinner?:
That must be “zuurkool met worst”. That’s a
typical Dutch meal with potatoes, cabbage and sausage.
Who is your
favourite fictional character?:
I’ll have to leave this answer up to
your imagination.
What do you currently have in your pockets?:
Some papers with sketches and a wallet.
If you were given
“more time”, what would you do with it?:
I’d probably go outside and
start relaxing cause I’m not giving myself any peace at the moment.
/>Who do you love?: My girlfriend and my family off course.

mayb - The A’s to Our Q’s:

Wooster: How did you
get started in creating art for the street?

mayb:
Five years ago I started drawing characters and different kinds of
names. I started to write them on walls with a friend of mine. At the same time
I began making stickers, posters and later on also stencils. In the small town I
grew up in, I was the only one who did these kind of things. So everybody
started to notice it quite quickly. Which I liked because it was something I
could express myself in and people could appreciate me for. From that time on I
started doing more and more street art.

Wooster: Why
m.a.y.b?

mayb: I’d always used words that had some
kind of meaning to me. I began with m.a.y.b.e. as my tag. At that time I didn’t
know what I wanted with my life. That doubt in my life disappeared and I began
to understand that this world we live in, is a strange and very confusing one.
So I kept the name m.a.y.b. but I just took away the ‘e’ at the end. So it
wouldn’t symbolize that same meaning of confusion in my life anymore.

/>Wooster: What other street artists do you most admire and
why?

mayb: I really like the ‘SOL crew’ and in
particular work by ‘erosie’ because I like the style of his drawings. ‘The
London Police’ is one of my favourites as well because of it’s big ass posters.
And I like ‘beefree’ for his freaky characters.

Wooster:
What’s your favourite city, neighbourhood, or block, to post and/or to
see street art?

mayb: Antwerp is one of the best
cities for me to post and to see. It has got so many artists and so many small
streets and old buildings. The surrounding really reflects the meaning of the
art that is dropped there.

Wooster: What inspires
you now?

mayb: My latest work is inspired by the
strange need to consume that people have.

Wooster:
What are you currently working on?  Can you give us a sneak peek?
/>
mayb: At the moment I’m working on a few big posters
made for some special spots. My new work will be around soon…......
