bka - The A’s to Our Q’s:

Wooster: How did you get started in creating art for the street?:

bka:  Well here in SF it’s hard not to be influenced by Rigo 03, who has the largest murals in town. So, his work at first, and then the need to escape from the hell of advertising.

Wooster: What other street artists do you most admire and why?

bka:  Andrew Schoultz. DAve, MEEK, Tofer. Traditional muralists in the Mission. A crew of artists just went to Indonesia to collaborate on public murals (Carolyn Ryder Cooley, Alicia McCarthy, Aaron Noble, Rigo, Schoultz, etc.);  the results are amazing. They had BAMBOO SCAFFOLDING!

Wooster: What’s your favorite city, neighborhood, or block, to post and/or to see street art?

bka:  I was in Williamsburg, Brooklyn over the summer to do a piece and loved seeing the Doze Green murals. I’ve seen alot of his work (he’s had something like 5 solo shows here), and even been in his studio.. but it’s always utterly exciting.

Wooster: What inspires you now?

bka:  Mark Gonzales. The guy is a walking religion. The Clyfford Still room at the SF MOMA. The land.

Wooster: What are you currently working on?  Can you give us a sneak peek?

bka:  Well, I’m still trying to convince the owner of a billboard to let me have at it.
