Moniker Stories: Part VIII

Judith Supine:
"My moniker is a homage to both my mother and the act of creation. Judith is my mother's forename and supine(lying on the back with the face upward) is the birthing posture. The idea for this nom de plume was a result of my brother and me laughing about the idea of my mom getting arrested for my acts of vandalism."

"Monster Project was conceived as a way to play with and capitalize on the idea of good placement in outdoor, illegal art. The goal was always to compliment more than vandalize. The Monster character was initially influenced by some traditional imagery from the American Northwest, which, in retrospect, seems highly inappropriate considering the project itself was heavily reliant upon New England's dilapidated industrial landscape. The Monster was conceived as a sort of mythical beast that ate "City" and appeared wherever the city got so run down it became beautiful again; the monster was intended to give a face to what we found interesting in the urban decay. Basically, it was a project using a monster. The focus was never the image itself, but rather to encourage people to look more at the city around them. We haven't done a monster in almost a year, but we still have friends who say, "Oh, I saw this great spot to do a monster," and in that sense, we don't even need to do one there because they already saw it."

Kenny Random:
"I was walking around..in Berlin ...was cold and I wen inside an used-clothing store..I so a nice ceep militar jaket with a small lable with signed the name of the militar that one day wering that jaket....the name was "KENNY"....so I bought that jaket....Then I start wlking araund again...wen I found a very nice girl in a coffe ..I met her ..we talk for a wile ..and then she said.."hei I go...se u tomorrow....but wat is your name ....?" ...and I sow the lable in my jaket and I answer .."KENNY!...." ...and she said "..KENNY! " ...and I said " KENNY... ..KENNY RANDOM!"
....I never see her again!
...but from this day I was KENNY for evryone!..
..and thats all!"

YOK:
"I liked the idea of giving meaning to something that previously had no meaning. Inventing my own word and then anything i did under that name would contribute to that words meaning, an accumulative affect.
So i chose YOK, thinking i had made it from part of a Japanese first name and it had no meaning. It had good letters, i wanted something with an O so i could draw faces in the o's.But i have since discovered that it means to disagree in Turkish, there is a restaurant in Thailand called Yok Yor (maybe that means good chicken). So if anyone else knows what it means write to yok@theyok.com
I guess i wanted it to stand for gargoyles, that's why my drawings are loosely based on gargoyles and drawn with wings, horns, claw hands and feet. Then i started getting carried away by adding moustaches and beards. Anyway I like the idea of how in medieval times gargoyles were placed on buildings to ward off evil spirits. So i thought it was fitting to paint/stick them up high on city walls to ward off evil city jerks.
