World AIDS Day and The Wooster Collective

As the Wooster Collective site has grown over the
last few years, Sara and I have been very cognizant and proud of the amazing
support and assistance that it has given to independent and visionary artists
from all over the world. So many people, including ourselves, have benefited
from the site in more ways that one can imagine. And because of this, we’re
motivated to keep it going, even though it’s not always easy to do so.

/>From the very beginning, we decided that the Wooster site would never become a
“business” for us. We don’t want advertisements to compete with the art on the
site. And we don’t want the Wooster site to be an online retail store in the
guise of a weblog about art.

So because of this, a while back we
decided that any financial benefit we received from the site would go not to us,
but to something that we believed in with the same passion that we have for art.
And then we had the good fortune to meet an amazing woman named Leigh Blake.
/>
Leigh is the founder of an organization called href="http://www.keepachildalive.org/">Keep A Child Alive. The sole mission
of KCA is to get AIDS medicines to children and families in Africa who are dying
solely because they don’t have access to the drugs that can keep them alive.
/>
Today, December 1st, is World AIDS Day.

If
you’ve been a loyal reader of the Wooster site, one way you can show your
support of the site, is to spend a few minutes today, on World AIDS Day,
learning more about the AIDS crisis in not only Africa, but across the entire
world.

If you can, please check out the Keep A Child Alive href="http://www.keepachildalive.org/index.html">website. If you have the
means to do so, buy a “DRUG
DEALER”
t-shirt on the site.  (You may have seen the shirt, worn by Common,
earlier this year in Vapors Magazine.  Jason and Chris were kind enough to done
a couple of ad pages to the campaign)

And here’s a sneak preview of
another way you can help:

On Tuesday December 6th, iTunes will be
exclusively releasing a new song called “Don’t Give Up (Africa)”. It’s a duet by
Alicia Keys and Bono. All proceeds from the download will go to Keep A Child
Alive. The song, originally recorded by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush in 1986 for
the album “So.” is absolutely beautiful. Sara and I heard Alicia and Bono sing
it a few weeks ago and we were stunned.

For an exlusive preview of
the song, click here.
(This is the only place where you can currently hear the song)

But
make sure to check iTunes on the 6th, as our goal is to make this song the most
downloaded digital single in history.

If you’d like to get involved
in Keep A Child Alive, please drop us an email at href="mailto:woostercollective@hotmail.com">woostercollective@hotmail.com
We expecially interested in getting more artists and brands involved.  Also, if
you have a magazine, zine, or website, and can donate some ad space, drop us a
note.

Again, if you’re a fan and loyal reader of the site, and want
to do something to show your support, learn more about the AIDS crisis in
Africa, and if you can, please make a donation to KCA.

It’s an
organization that we truly believe in.
