Wooster Hits London - Report #3

As I head off for
the airport, I thought I would say thanks once again to everyone in London who
came out this week. For me, the last few days proved once again that London is
not only the best city in the world to check out street art, but also to meet up
with some of the best people you’ll ever meet.

The highlight for me
last night was to finally meet Darius and Downey for the first time. Two years
ago, Swoon told me about these guys and said that it was because of them that
she’s doing the stuff that she’s doing. If someone like Swoon tells you that
these are the guys that she looks up to, then man that’s saying a hell of a lot.
They are her mentors and as soon as you meet them, you can understand why.

After a few glasses of wine at the RuggedArt show (the McGinniss rug is
amazing), Darius took a bunch of us down a back alley to check out a piece that
he recently put up. We won’t tell you exactly where the cameras are because not
only do we want to make sure that they don’t get nicked, but the real fun of
street art and culture jamming done by artists like Darius and Downey is that
you find it in places that you would never expect it to be. For me the two
security cameras in love (which took days to make and hours to weld and bolt
into the bricks) are the essence of what street art are all about.

On the way home to the hotel last night I came across a tiny little Banksy stencil off a side street in Soho. So as I head back to New York, I thought it would be fitting that the final photo from this quick trip to London would be a Banksy rat.

More from New York this weekend….
