The other day when we received an email from 108
in Alessandria Italy,  we immediately began to think about how many different
cities around the world we’ve seen his bright yellow amoeba-like figures. We
remember them in Paris. London too.  New York, of course. San Francisco, most
definately. LA? We can’t remember.

So when 108 shot us an email
saying hello, we were quite pleased. After peeping his "http://www.108art.tk"> website we grew even more interested.  Good stuff
indeed.

Since everyone’s been digging our “five questions,” we shot
them over to 108 who, it seems, never sleeps. We loved what he had to say and
appreciated that he responded in English, knowing that its not his everyday
language:

Wooster: How did you get started in creating art for
the street?

108: I was bored to see my art on my sketch-book.
See my stuff free on environement is 1000 times better than see it shut up in a
gallery. I started in first ‘90 doing tags, till today with the new stuff. I’ll
never stop it till I’ll be underground.

Wooster:  What
originally inspired you to the yellow character? What do you call it?

/>108: It is minimal abstract stuff. hahah… really, is the last step of
my evolution… but not the end. I taked away all the useless stuff (letters,
figurative stuff) and dedicated my self on the pure shape. The first inspiration
was the old writing on the walls of the old building, the punk posters of the
80’s, underground comix, the old trees… I choose the yellow color because is
the most visible color… but I don’t like this color very much. My favourite
color is dark red.

Wooster: What other street artists do you
most admire and why?

108: mmm… is an hard question… in Italy there
are few good artists… the best is Peio, he is a young artist, but influnced me
a lot. Suede, ladybug, "http://www.paopao.it/setframe.html">Pao... and few more. In Europe there
are the best artists:  Honet from paris, Eko, 6 from berlin, people in Holland,
a lot of unknown artists. "http://www.davewarnke.com/intro.swf">Dave from s.francisco is great too.
/>
Wooster: What’s your favorite city, neighborhood, or block, to
post and/or to see street art?

108: I come from Alessandria, a
small city in the north Italy… it is my favourite place, xpecially a district
called “pista”... “track” in italian, because in the first ‘900 there was a
circular track for car racing. most of the architecture is from that time, and
is always good for me walking in those streets for post my arts or to see art of
my friends, my friend peio live in this place (Alessandria is one of the first
italian place where this stree art “wave” start). Others city are Lignano in
autumn and winter times, and in europe I think my favourite place is Berlin (the
ex-est area), but usually I prefere small city.

Wooster: What
inspires you now?

108: My biggest inspiration in the last
times are trees, the ground, the stains on the old walls… and the old european
rural cultures.
