THE ESSENTIALS #6 - Logan Hicks’ “Essentials” for Los Angeles

Today we move from Bristol, England to the
streets of Los Angeles, California…

Logan Hicks “Essentials” List for Los Angeles

1)  The
Lab 101
- Fantastic new Gallery on 17th Street in Santa Monica showcasing
international artists (blatant self promotion - I am a partner in the gallery
with Freddi C - so shoot me)

Dive Bars - not enough of them in Los Angeles, but be sure to
check out Powerhouse Bar on Highland and Hollywood (shit bar in middle of
glamor Hollywood. It rocks). Other bars that I dig,- Tiki Ti on Sunset, Frolic Room on Hollywood.

3)
Mulholland Drive - I go up on Mulholland near the top of Orange
Drive, and sit at night to collect my thoughts. You can see all of LA. good
thinking place. David Hockney did a painting of the same Mulholland
location.

4) Crewest -
store/gallery in Alhambra. Owned by ManOne, has good paint, good art, and is
owned by a good guy, what else do you need. On Valley Blvd.

5)
Spring Street / Jewelry District in downtown LA. good gritty
part of town with some cool old school architecture. Good for those east coast
transplants here in LA that yearn for a bit of the ol’ east coast city feel. Get
to rub elbows w business people and junkies at the same time—oh yeah!
/>
6) Amoeba Records - hard
not to know about Amoeba, but for those who dont, it is the independent music
store that has a good soul. On Sunset near Vine.

7) LaBrea
/Beverly shops
. nice little hub of shops like Undefeated, Stussy, Union
that have good merch. Check top of building for the Artist billboard project.
past artists have included Barry McGee, Geoff McFetridge, and others

/>8) Venice Boardwalk - great people watching spot. kinda
touristy, but one of the few places you can feel alone in flock of people
/>
9) Streets. Sucks to drive in at rush hour, but from
Venice Blvd., to Downtown, LA has some great street art. it is like a canvas
that is 50 miles wide.  Constantly in a state of flux.
