Yesterday we posted two separate pieces on San Francisco; the premier of the new film “Quality of Life”, and the amazing artist designed rooms of The Hotel Des Arts. But what we didn’t know until this morning was that an organization called START SOMA was involved in both of them. If you haven’t yet heard of START SOMA check out their website, because it’s organizations like START SOMA that work behind the scenes (often with very little or no credit) to give emerging artists larger and larger platforms to work from. Things don’t happen without many people involved, and we need organizations like START SOMA and people like John Doffing, the organization’s founder and CEO, to help open up new doors and create new opportunities for artists.

In addition to people like Logan Hicks, David Choe, and Sam Flores, over the next few months, artists including Dalek, Matzu, Kenji, and Bryan Dawson are painting rooms at the Hotel Des Arts. So that leaves 20 remaining rooms. If you’re interested in painting one of the remaining rooms you’re invited to submit sample jpegs to John at (john at STARTsoma dot com)
