Project is not new, it remains one of the best and most exhaustive internet
projects you’re likely to find. A few years back a group of volunteers set out
to document each and every surveillance camera - public or private - in
Manhattan, from the police cameras that are appearing more and more frequently
on electrical poles, to the tiny cameras that film us taking cash out of the
ATM. All-in-all the group found 2,397 cameras and documented every one block-by-
block. It’s a fascinating archive and is likely to scare the shit out of you.
There isn’t a square meter where we aren’t being filmed by one camera or
another. The site’s purpose is to spur debate on the subject and to ensure that
as citizens we know precisely the threat the proliferation of these cameras have
on our individual freedoms. The site’s an amazing resource if you are
interested in this subject.
