Saru - The A’s To Our Q’s:
Wooster: How did you get started in creating
art for the street?
Saru: I started to notice the increasing
sticker scene in London and I decided to give it a shot. It took me around to
years until I finally decided to stick to my first monkey design.
/>Wooster: Why the ape?
Saru: I have always been
interested in monkeys and apes as a little kid and around two years ago, I came
across the classic ‘planet of the apes’ film and sequels, which I instantly grew
to.
Wooster: What other street artists do you most admire and
why?
Saru: There are so many street artists that both
influence me and make my walk home more interesting:
"http://www.banksy.co.uk">Banksy is my all time hero, as his combination of
political awareness and humour makes his pieces stand out from the crowd and
also his placing. Space invader
for parts of my memory I forgot. Like endless hours playing with my cousin on
his ever increasing video game library.
"http://www.faile.net">Faile for his photomontages and usage of found
material like paper and evening standard headings. Flying fortress for his funky bear dog things. And Andy Warhol
for his iconic imagery and comments on society’s need for celebrities
/>Wooster: What’s your favourite city, neighbourhood, or block, to post
and/or to see street art?
Saru: So far, it’s London, as I
haven’t had the chance to let the world see my work
Wooster:
What inspires you now?
Saru: Life
Wooster:
What are you currently working on? Can you give us a sneak peek?
/>Saru: At the moment, I am preparing for my graphics exam, which is on
Thursday and Friday. For the exam, I am producing a set of images that comment
on the war. The main story behind the piece is that war is animalistic.
