EGR - The A’s to Our Q’s:
Wooster: How did you get started
in creating art for the street?
EGR: While going to
art school I really got into it. To me, it was an underground message board,
and I loved the secret language. Back in my hometown, we’d mostly concentrate
on hitting up the train line and tagging postboxes, and when I would come into
the city I would have an arson of stickers and markers. I was hooked
instantly.
Wooster: What other street artists do you
most admire and why?
EGR: Banksy for his
originality and ability to adapt to whatever element he hits up, Astro for his
sense of humour, and Kwest for his determination and large skills, though those
are off the top of my head. I admire most writers from my city for staying up
and keeping me on my toes.
Wooster: What’s your
favorite city, neighborhood, or block, to post and/or to see street art?
/>
EGR: I love finding street art in obscure locations,
like when I’m taking the bus out to the country and I see it on a silo or the
side of a barn, but I suppose that might not be classified as “street”.. When I
venture downtown to the Queen alleys in Toronto its exciting to see new stuff.
Or along the Keele line, or the highways, especially in Montreal, but its
really dope to walk around my own neighbourhood and finding new ish… I’ll
mostly hit up spots as I see fit, quite randomly and spontaneously I suppose.
/>
Wooster: What inspires you now?
/>EGR: Music of all kinds, especially live. It gives me a
kick and this energy that makes me realize that I am so lucky to have an outlet
for all the pent up energy that I have. I’m inspired by folks who will stop at
no ends to have their message seen or heard, and those who work hard at their
craft and keep a positive light in their lives, personally as well as
professionally. I’m inspired also by all the cliche eye candy that exists in
this beautiful world: pretty ladies, fashion, cars and bikes. yeah…..
/>
Wooster: What are you currently working on? Can you
give us a sneak peek?
EGR: I’m currently working
on a painting of a Toronto B girl crew, as well as another animated music video,
this time for Grand Agent & Raynge. I’d give you a sneak peek, but then I’d
have to kill you. Just keep your eyes peeled this summer. I’m also planning a
mural for Dashboard Creative- a downtown design agency’s front lobby, inspired
by route 66. I’m also working on a backdrop mural for Rob Bass & DJ EZ Rock for
a live performance next Thursday at Hotel…
