Create - The A’s to Our Q’s:
Wooster: How did
you get started in creating art for the street?
/>Create: I live in Winnipeg. Period. If you want to know
exactly how many different shades of grey there are, Winnipeg would be a good
place to find out. The streets here are so boring, and there’s little to look
at. I wanted to do something that would break up the monotony of walking around
this place.
Wooster: How would you describe your
style?:
Create: bold and bright. sexy and violent.
slightly sinister….
Wooster: Why sticks?
/>Create: I have a bit of an obsessive personality, and I like
being able to take the time to perfect the post or sticker before going out.
Also, visually, it allows you more room to express certain things. Not to
mention it takes about two seconds to put up!
Wooster:
What other street artists do you most admire and why?
/>Create: It’s tough to make a list that doesn’t go on too
long. I like sumo, alexone, abstract, tt crew, daub, maciek, crucho, shepard
fairey, twist, futura, nyebye, your, ufo - the list is endless. I admire anyone
who works hard at their art and tries to keep pushing forward.
/>Wooster: What’s your favorite city, neighborhood, or block,
to post and/or to see street art?
Create: In
Winnipeg, it has to be the exchange district, so much fresh stuff right now.
I’m going to France and Spain in the summer, and I’m really stoked to check the
scenes in those countries. I’ve seen a lot of photos on the internet, and it
looks pretty dope.
Wooster: What inspires you
now?
Create: I must admit, the city that I hate is
also one of my largest inspirations. The cult of celebrity, the darker side of
things. My girlfriend, of course.
Wooster: What are
you currently working on? Can you give us a sneak peek?
/>Create: I’m thinking about doing some pieces in a classical
narrative style like Reubens or Raphael, but with flat, bright colours and
highly detailed stencils for definition. Lots of symbolism.
