While we were in London this week, we came across
a series of wheat pastes in Shoreditch that we absolutely loved.  The artist is
Caliper Boy. We invited him to join us for a round of beers at the Dragon Bar.
He didn’t make it unfortunately—“i was face down in a pint of beer somewhere
in the vicinity of london town.. - but he did send us some more snaps and some
info.  Enjoy….

Caliper Boy (1819-present)

The original underground street artist, Caliper Boy’s work has lurked in
the damp gloom of London’s alleyways since the early 1800’s.

/>Imprisoned as a child in the basement of a Soho bordello by his prostitute
mother, Caliper Boy was her dirty little secret. Until he escaped at the age of
twelve. He has roamed the ancient city’s less salubrious districts in search of
his unknown father ever since and has built his kingdom among the shadowy
underclasses that inhabit London’s darkest corners.

Caliper Boy’s
work was originally a means of communicating with his unknown father in the hope
that one day he might track him down. More recently, Caliper Boy has entrusted
his mission to the ‘Brotherhood of the Brace’ - a sacred order whose life’s work
is to act as spokesmen for the deformed and the twisted, the freaks and the
heads, the punks and the junkies. The grime that the rain will never wash from
the London streets.
