This summer, as I was travelling on a Vaparetto
down the grand canal in Venice, I spotted a sign reading “Art is not where you
think you’re going to find it”. For me it was the perfect quote for the book on
graffiti which I was just finishing writing. I then contacted the artist to ask
for his permission to quote it. He was more than happy to do this and then told
me about his other billboard projects…

For a year href="http://www.patrickmimran.com/">Patrick Mimran has been renting out
billboard spaces in the Chelsea district of New York as a way to engage people
outside of the gallery system. The theme is the meaning of art and also the way
in which it should be understood.
