Logan Hicks’ Report From Europe - Part 1
Logan
Hicks just came back from an extended trip to Europe. Here’s the first of a
series of his reports…

The
first stop on my European tour was Maribor, Slovenia. Slovenia was a great
place. I gave a lecture/demonstration at the exhibition space. This was in
conjunction with the Magdalena Festival. Also showing was ‘The Designers
Republic’. We had a good turnout, but after I sprayed out my stencils, we were
all high as kites. The space where the exhibition was is called ‘Pekarna’, which
apparently means “bakery” in Slovenian. The complex was the bakery compound used
to provide the former Yugoslavian military with Bread. Once Slovenia became an
independent country, there were tons of former military installations that
became vacant. Now this complex has many artists, musicians, bars, and
restaurants within it, and is covered with murals and graffiti on the outside.
Corto, a fellow stencil artist was responsible for me going to Slovenia in the
first place, and his generosity was amazing in showing me around the city, and
giving me the history of the whole place.
