Jason’s Barcelona Diary

Yesterday we gave you a report on the the recent
Barcelona street art meet-up by Microbo and bo130.  Today’s report on the
festivities in Barcelona comes from our good friend Jason at Vapors Magazine…
Check back tomorrow for another Barcelona report. This time from Dave the
Chimp.

Typical airport photos

Day 1:
/>
SFO to Barcelona via Delta. No free food for the domestic leg and some
group of wannabe corporate tycoons on their way to a business conference in BCN
chattin’ it up the whole way. Quit trying to learn how to make more money 35,000
feet over the Atlantic!

We get to our apartment and rest. After a
phone call to Freaklub we are at a gallery opening in which they have some work
up. After the show it’s tapas time!

Typical wall in Raval

Day 2:
/>
It rained all day. We were scheduled to meet everybody at a bar called
The Bodega in Raval. Danny and I decided to make up some paste and get up on the
walk there. It was raining like mad but we still got around 60 posters up.
Barcelona is an absolute free for all when it comes to putting your work up.
When we got to the spot I was amazed with how many heads came down to Barcelona
for the weekend. Just off the top of my head….Bo130, Microbo, Chaz(The London
Police), Finders Keepers Crew (London), Gallo (Amsterdam), Freaklub (Barcelona),
Flying Fortress (Germany), Nano (Spain) and many others were all in the place to
be. This was an unofficial street art convention. The first of many explained to
me by Chaz from The London Police. The rest of the evening consisted of beer and
conspiring to crush the city for the rest of the weekend.

Let the painting begin!

Day 3:

The rain has let up a little and we are all at a sorta
legal wall. It is not really a legal wall but as Xavi from Freaklub explains,
“On the weekends the police kind of give us a break.” How much more of a break
can the police give you?!
Anyways, all the artists kill the wall. Everybody
kicks it on the scooters parked along the road and just soaks in the Barcelona
“free for all” vibes.

We go back to the apartment for siesta and
prepare for a late night at the club. We went to the club jump and it was all
out ruckus from 2:00am till 6:00am. I have to give big, big respect to The
Hooligans (PMH, Dave The Chimp, Dface, Ichi, Mysterious Al) for making the dance
floor the only place to be. Seriously, if you want a party to go off invite The
Hooligans, they are non stop party action.

The walk back to the
apartment was sketch. Don?t get stupid faded at the club and then walk down La
Rambla. You will straight get jacked. Too many shiesty emcees to count on La
Rambla.

Isn’t it a little late to still have your Christmas tree
up?

Day 4:

We wake up late,
real late. Sunny and warm we decide to do some tourist type stuff and head up to
Park Guell. The park sits on top of a hill that overlooks all of Barcelona. It
was designed by Antonio Gaudi in 1914. That night we just chill and I take some
pictures of some of the street art and graff that has been put up over the past
few days.

/>Day 5:

About 10 of us meet at the Montana store to
take a tour of the Montana factory an hour inland from Barcelona. The tour was
amazing. The owner Jordi and founder Kopi are so passionate towards graffiti and
producing a quality product for the art. Buy Montana!

/>Day 6:

Everybody is cutting out of BCN today. The
weekend was truly memorable. So much art was put up in a city that genuinely
appreciates and welcomes it. Barcelona is like no other place in the world and I
can only hope that I find my way back there quickly.

20hrs of sitting
in budget ass Delta coach back to S.F. I read most of The Da Vinci Code.
