Give ‘Em Props!— Banksy by Logan Hicks
My favorite piece was the Banksy stencil of Marilyn Monroe
that was in Hollywood. It was on Hollywood Blvd. near Highland Ave. It was a
huge stencil, maybe about 13 ft tall, that had Marilyn Monroe that with busted
teeth, and bleeding from the mouth. It was a great piece. It was in a high
traffic area, it was a piece that was highly skilled, it was a brilliant play on
the Hollywood set that cherishes the whole glamor and glitz that Hollywood lives
off of. I think that most people thought it should be there, cause it was up
there for almost 2 months. My favorite thing about it was that there was a press
conference that the police chief did about graffiti and how they were going to
wipe it out cause all graffiti was gang graffiti. the conference was right under
the Marilyn Monroe piece! they didn’t show the piece, but i had walked by the
building a million times, so i knew that looming right above the police chiefs
head was this Marilyn Monroe piece. the thought, skill, placement, and humor all
came together for that piece i thought.
