Internet vs. Print
Earlier tonight, over a few glasses of tequila, a
bunch of us started talking about how much information and incredible content
about art and contemporary artists is now available on the internet on sites
like Wooster, Ekosystem,
href="http://www.stencilrevolution.com">Stencil Revolution,
href="http://www.stickernation.net">Stickernation, and others like them.
And yet at the same time we all still love art and culture print magazines like
Vapors, Beautiful Decay, Wax Poetics, The Face, and a ton of others from around
the world.
But as more and more people get used to going to the
Internet to get their “art fix”, what’s the future of the print magazines? We
tried to come up with a good strategy to differentiate what type of stuff that
works best on the web and the type of stuff that still works best in print, but
we couldn’t come up with a strong differentiation. So we thought we’d reach out
to the Wooster community and ask for your thoughts…
If you took
over an art and culture magazine tomorrow, knowing that more and more people go
to the web, what would you do? Sell it because there’s no future for print? And
If you kept the print magazine, what would you do with it to keep people
reading?
We’re interested in hearing what you, as artists and art
lovers, think. In the coming days, we’ll post the responses we get. Should be
an interesting discussion.
