If you’re out and about in New York these days you’re likely to come across the
work of REP1. We’ve been seeing his stuff everywhere lately, including a large
piece on Broome just East of Wooster. As REP1 puts the final touches on his
href= "http://www.rep1.net/">website, he was kind enough to answer a few
questions for us:
Wooster: How did you get started in
creating art for the street?
REP1: I’ve always liked street
art as an “outdoor gallery.” It’s open to all, 24/7. Being an artist, I wanted
to REP-resent my work to this great outdoor gallery.
Wooster:
What originally inspired you to do the Rep figure?
REP1: Just
an idea that I had in my mind. My goal is to make the Rep figures into an iconic
image from the streets and beyond…....worldwide.
Wooster:
What other street artists do you most admire and why?
REP1:
href= "http://www.obeygiant.com"> Obey, Kinsey, Chip7, Meres, Pez, Net,
href = "http://www.at149st.com/costrev.html">Revs-Cost. The guys @
Netherlands, Zime, Space3, Erosie. From
France——ekosystem.org. I see their stickers & posters all over the place.Their
concept and colors that they use for their work is excellent. And many, many
more artists…-WORDWIDE-.
Wooster: What’s your favorite
city, neighborhood, or block, to post and/or to see street art?
/>REP1: My favorite city is most definitely-NYC-the Mecca of street art.
