Give ‘Em
Props!... Hemingway by Above
“I
first got introduced to this individual in a most unique form. I go to the local
soup kitchen twice a week to get free tortillas, and other random foods. I enjoy
talking with the homeless and hearing their stories be it true or false they
have stories after stories to tell to an attentive ear. One day while I was at
the Soup Kitchen I got my plate of food and sat down at one of the tables. I
start talking with an older man about life and everything in between. We shake
hands and introduce ourselves. He calls himself “HEMINGWAY” because his friends
gave him that name because he always is reading books and is never far from
literature. We continued to talk and eat until he asked me out of the blue if I
would like to see some art? I smiled back at “Hemingway” and said “Let’s go.” We
walked on foot a few block away from the soup kitchen and Hemingway shows me
some of his street art. I was blown away that he actually said the word “street
art” to describe his creations. He told me that he finds all of his materials
for his “Pole Collages” in the streets. He showed me about six different poles
on this one block that he has his work attached to these poles. What I find and
found most intriguing and inspiring about Hemingway’s work is that it re-defines
that it does not really matter what you do with art (or in life) but how you go
about putting it together. Hemingway has passion in arranging his collages and I
admire and respect this quality in him. It seems as if he is not so concerned or
attached to the final outcome or appearance of his poles, rather he is just
enjoying the process of creating. “Art for art sake.” Thank you Hemingway!”
