“Is there ONE painting, sticker,
stencil, sculpture, or piece of architecture that truly inspires you in your
daily work?”

“After a lot of pondering i decided the piece of work that crosses my
mind, and I return to the most is the ‘humdrum epic’ of
href="http://www.tomphillips.co.uk/sculptur/20sites/index.html">‘20 Sites n
years’ by Tom Phillips. In 1973 the artist decided he would take a photo of
the same 20 locations around his house every year; originally planning merely to
chronicle any physical changes but inadvertently the project became more
comprehensive and interesting, as the commentaries demonstrate:
/>Highlights for me are site 16; The Car Park, which the artist deduces must be
a practice area for road sign erection and site 9; Ruskin park:
“As
so often in 20 Sites no pattern or plan is discernible in the changes made to
things or their positioning or even their existence. A bench will move here and
there, and will disappear altogether to come back again after a while: if indeed
20 Sites is seen as a microcosm of the nation as a whole then an awful lot of
people, especially those working for the municipality, are involved in totally
random and arbitrary activity.”
