Give ‘Em Props! - Thesis on TWIST

ok. so we all love twist, but I think I really love
twist….. he’s got the raddest tags and lettes, and his figurative stuff is
responsible for a whole generation of street wierdo’s, whether he likes it or
not…..

before I his work I thaught that I was the only person
really, really into the character thing….. and it inspired me to keep doing
what I wanted even though most of the graffiti guys I paint(ed) with were/are
strictly into letters…..

so then I discovered this piece in a
japanese magazine called beikodu….. the reason why I love what’s going on here
is that twist painted a character and possibly the crown logo to the right, but
it looks like a logo that a store would make or something (and I think the
question of who made the logo is cool also)..... then someone has gone over his
character and the red crown thing with some spray paint….. so instead of
fixing his character he takes the ego right out the situation of being “dissed”
and paints out the background leaving it to look like the scribbles are intended
for his character, almost inviting the attack and showing that it doesn’t
matter…..in doing this he also acknowledges that destruction is a natural
thing that happens in “street art” and shows that he welcomes it….. it is also
an interesting message to leave for the person who attemped to deface his
vandalism….. I think that it is great that twist not only makes cool images
but he always leaves a story, something more complex than what you origionaly
see at first glance”... Thesis
