/>Kid Acne: So Kev how would you describe your style?

/>Kev Grey: Loose as a goose.

Kid Acne:
When did you get into all this tattoo style shit then? I noticed it in
your book about two years ago, you been into it a while or what?

/>Kev Grey: My Dad’s got home made tattoos on his arms that I
always liked, plus I saw a lot of tattoos on the members of bands that I
listened to growing up. As for illustrating them myself I remember starting to
draw hot-rod style flames about six or seven years ago and it’s just developed
from there. The style I’m doing now really came together when I illustrated the
cover for the last issue of Thrappage in a tattoo-style drawing.

/>Kid Acne: I know that a few cats have got your designs
tattooed on them now, do you think you’ll start doing the tattoos yourself at
some point?

Kev Grey: I’d like to but it’s not
something I’d do unless I was going to do it properly, plus there’s too much
drawing work that I want to do. I’ve said before that I’d like to concentrate on
drawing for the next few years and when I reach thirty maybe dedicate my time to
having an apprenticeship.

Kid Acne: Which writer do
you like the most out of A) P Nut 2, B) Ket and C) Iz The Wiz?

/>Kev Grey: Shit, that’s tough. Overall I’d have to say Iz The
Wiz, but those old P Nut 2 piece’s are priceless.

Kid Acne:
Do you know anyone who’s got a better copy of Classic Hits?

/>Kev Grey: No.

Kev Grey: To a blind person, how would you describe
your style?

Kid Acne: I’d read them Where The Wild
Things Are and some Roald Dahl, play them some New Kingdom and Slick Rick and
tell them it’s somewhere in between.

Kev Grey: You
do a lot of sketches, do you think It’s important for the development of your
work to constantly be getting loose ideas down?

Kid Acne:
I reckon it’s good to be sketching all the time but really it’s most
important to get your work out the book and onto the wall. the more pieces you
paint, the looser you get at drawing and vice versa. I like to freestyle my
pieces and having that confidence has definitely come through hours of drawing.
you don’t actually need to copy one of your drawings onto the wall, you just
treat it like a big sketch innit?

Kev Grey: If I were to ask you five minutes before you
were about to drop dead whether you would prefer for your music or artwork to
live on, which would you choose?

Kid Acne: Artwork
defo. I love making music, but at the end of the day my music is Hip Hop which
means that it’s just my take on a genre, same with graffiti I guess, but with my
illustrations I feel I’ve created a whole pallet of characters within their own
universe and in my own style. I’d feel happy enough for people to only see that
once I’ve chucked a 7.

Kev Grey: What’s your
opinion on people making their own fanzines?

Kid Acne:
It’s all good as long as it’s their own artwork and not a load of cut
n paste interviews with local bands and a massive introduction about being
unemployed and getting stoned or whatever. I met some of my favourite artists
through making fanzines and still keep that DIY ethos in all my work.

/>Kev Grey: Blondes or brunettes?

Kid Acne:
Brunettes.
