Favorites Things of 2004 -  Part 4

Today’s “Favorites of 2004” come from
another terrific group of Wooster favorites - PMH in London, Dan Weise in New
York, C100 in Munich, John Doffing in San Fran, and Jace on Reunion Island (damn
we’re jealous!)

Again - Enjoy….

Favorite Event of 2004:

href="http://www.fotolog.net/lapmh">PMH (artist): This year I’ve been lucky
to go to Barcelona twice, but I’m gonna count them both as one event, because in
my head it does feel like I went over there for one long week, my mind does work
in mysterious ways sometimes. But both times I went were awesome… first time I
went this year was in febuary, simply to be part of an informal street artist
meet or summit featuring some of europes finest, americas vapors crew… I made
some good friends (too many to name but esp. freaklub and gabriel), painted
walls, warehouse and toilets, got drunk, lots, pasted lots, caused mayhem in
various barcelona nightspots…sleep wasn’t an option and the trip was
unforgettable. Second time was to go and put on a fkc show at the montana
gallery, which was great, although I didn’t finish my paintings, and my camera
got nicked (worst thing EVER)...however we had a finders keepers street gallery
that was amazing, as there were more artists in person and putting stuff in than
imagined - miss van, the london police, nano, flying fortress, captain rouget,
ONG crew, galo, microbo & bo130, jace, papa limbo, ichi, freaklub, eltono , fkc,
saru, dist and so many more it was amazing.

John Doffing (Founder, href="http://www.start-inc.com/">START SOMA): the opening of the HOTEL DES
ARTS in San Francisco

Jace
(artist): my daughter first school day.

Dan Weise ( href="http://www.sherbertmagazine.com">SHERBERT Magazine): Cluster 2 Denver
Colorado 02/07/04, it was one of the last SHERBERT events I organized in Denver
before I left, and was by far the best, 6 live painters, amazing breakdancers
from the GTA crew, crazy fashion show, awesome music, projections, a mini store
with local merch, great crowd, and they the venue let us keep the party going
untill 3:30 am [venues close at 2am in Denver]

Christian Hundertrmark aka C100 ( href="http://www.the-art-of-rebellion.com/">Art of Rebellion): Definitely
the Finder Keepers 05 in Barcelona

Favorite Artist of 2004:

PMH: Ralph Steadman. He’s one
of my heroes…. I have artists that I like and am influenced by but hes like my
‘Hero’ - Hero is not a small word, but Steadmans my man. This year steadman has
still been cranking out some awesome collage / ink sketch pieces for english
papers (especially his work with will self)....but its all just straight up dope,
from the gonzo days with hunter s thompson to now, hes still on point…

/>John: RETNA

Jace: i really vibrate for href="http://www.danwitzstreetart.com/"> Dan Witz small works in the
street

src="http://www.woostercollective.com/images2/pastedGraphic1.jpg" />
/>

Dan: JIM DARLING
a good friend of mine and the nastiest illustrator ever.

/>

src="http://www.woostercollective.com/images2/jimdarling.jpg" />
/>

Christian: There are way too many artists i could
call my favorites. if i had to pick up just one- mmmmmmmmmmmmmm: href="http://www.akayism.org/">Akay(ism), i met him in Stockholm and he
showed me a lot of photos and videos of different projects he did. His range of
work is so huge! They installed swings allover stockholm this summer, build
houses on rocks, for me it’s one step ahead. you should definitely check out his
website- i’m still stoked. and he’s a very nice person, too. thanks for
borrowing me your bike, A!

Favorite
New Artist of 2004 (an artist who you did not know of last year):

/>
PMH: Neckface. Havent been to the states yet to witness the gifted
devestation first hand, but got blown away (like most) by his style when I was
scanning the net, but I also love his new gallery work too. Other contenders -
The mentary brothers, bee free & Albert Reyes, plus a thousand other people I
have forgotten. Sorry

John: href="http://www.artprimadonna.com/">David DeRosa

Jace: it’s more
a project, it’s called href="http://www.blinkenlights.de/">blinkenlights

style="text-align: center;">

src="http://www.woostercollective.com/images2/blinkenlights-heart-medium.jpg"
/>

Dan: The Brooklyn Based photographer href="http://www.artcoup.com/">Boogie, His work is crazy, real deal, honest,
in your face photography:

/>

Christian: Klisterpete from Stockholm, his
birdhouses on traffic lights are so amazing and very original!!!

/>Favorite Single Piece of Art in 2004:

PMH: As usual Fortress is killing it, i truly think hes one
of the best in the world (don’t go getting a big head gully man), I loved gomes
shit - like some decks he was designing for a skatelabel of landscapes….a skater
called french, I love his metal paintings…but perhaps it was the big wall I
helped to paint in febuary in barcelona with the gaggle of peeps, mainly because
of what it was, a group of likemided talented (ahem…) people gathered in a
single spot simply to be there, to make friends and make art….the fact that it
was so dope also helps as well…but it showed me how street art is unified in
europe, unlike the frictions of the graff scene, and how I like it like that
/>
John: Sam Flores’ room in the HOTEL DES ARTS.

style="text-align: center;">

src="http://www.woostercollective.com/images2/sam.7.jpg" />
/>

Jace: perhaps the Banksy sculpture about justice in
London.

Dan: I saw this giraffe in Red Hook Brooklyn while having a
frustrating time looking for apartments. it made me smile for the rest of the
week.

/>

Christian:  “the bread shoe” by Asbestos girlfriend
at the Finders Keepers in Barcelona

Favorite New Product of 2004:

PMH: that humvee with
ski tracks on. It can only go 50mph, but id soon get it pumped up and pimped
out

Jace: Bpppppppppppppffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

Dan:
itrip FM transmitter for my ipod, although I don’t use it much anymore, but it

country on my move.

Christian: my Ipod

Favorite CD/Song of 2004:

PMH: I cant answer
that but I have revisited certain favourites - iron maidens powers slave, le
tigres first LP, the death from above 1979 LP, the new hives was good, the new
MIA mix cd, diplo, phoenix, the new LCD soundsystem has just crept in…mf doom
(of course), ive actually enjoyed getting very stoned and listening to rick
wakemanns prog rock LPs from his heyday, but the story ones - the wives of henry
the eigth, journey to the center of the earth and the holy grail…always makes me
piss myself, dudes a legend…but as for modern stuff, ive forgotten everything
from the beginning of the year… crap I know! Johnny thunder as always?

/>John: SF Rapper Kev Kelley’s cover of Joe Walsh’s ‘Life’s Been Good to Me So
Far’

Jace: A compil of sound system from some local guys named “bass
kultur”

Dan: Danger Mouse and Gemini “Ghetto Pop Life”

/>Christian: Beastie Boys “5 bourroughs”

Favorite “Moment” (memory) of 2004:

PMH: it’s a close
toss up between barcelonas trips or the hamburg show, but ill pick the hamburg
show cos barcelonas already been mentioned…again, went out to do a show, got
absolutly wasted and got into some awesome scrapes…hamburg is my kinda town.
Dirty sailors brawling in the streets, football teams with skulls as their
emblem, bread with meat in, strong beer, great music and people and of course
gomes and his ghetto kitchen stereo…

John: Hosting a charitable art
show for thousands of people in San Francisco’s City Hall that raised a whole
bunch of money for Visual Aid, a non-profit that supplies terminally ill artists
in San Francisco with free art supplies.

Jace: painting on the floor
near the macba in Barcelona (great meeting, great place, great San-Miguel…)
