Favorites Things of 2004 -  Part 2

Today’s “Favorite Things of 2004” come to
you from Swoon in New York, John Trippe in San Francisco, Flying Fortress in
Germany, Bucky in New York, Craig Metzger in Los Angeles, and Amir Fallah, also
in Los Angeles. Enjoy.

Favorite
Event of 2004:

Swoon
(artist):
black label’s bike kill. more specifically, the moment when my
friend doyle, who is about 6 foot 8 and a cross between the terminator and a big
giant teddy bear rode by on the jet bike they had just built, with a four foot
blue flame shooting out the back and a rumble that shook brooklyn for blocks,
doyle just waved like he was on a float at the macy’s day parade. i have never
seen such a combination of quiantly cute and stomach drop terrifying in my life.
it was the right thing.

John Trippe
(Fecal Face/ Low Gallery):
The
Beautiful Losers show here in SF caused a big stir, although,

/>

I’m sure my favorite is slightly more obscure and
personal and of course right now all I can think of is what we’ve (Fecal Face)
have done… Um, our Low Gallery opening felt pretty good.

JR, Todd St.John, Eric Elms and Neck Face

Bucky (Animal Magazine): The grand re-opening of the Kissena Park
Velodrome April 24th.

Favorite
Artist of 2004:

Swoon: two people, mark brennan and margot
jacobs. the work that they have done this year has been that of curating great
projects, brilliant from the heart projects and bringing people together to work
and share ideas who might otherwise never meet. it’s an underappreciated art.
/>

Amir: Lari Pittman

Favorite Single Piece of
Art in 2004:

Swoon: this didn’t happen in 2004 but i did get
to meet the hostage in 2004, as she was being held in gothenburg sweden, it’s
zev’s kidnapping of the lavazza girl, he repelled down a 50 foot vinyl billboard
in germany and stole the lavazza girl with an exacto knife, then proceeded to
write ‘visual kidnapping pay now!’ across the blank space above her missing
shillouette. he cut the image’s pinky off and sent it to lavazza with a ransom
note. they contacted him saying ‘oh it’s brilliant, we’ll pay if we can use it
for next season’s ad campaign’, but he didn’t bite.

John: A piece
that Tiffany Bozic gave me. It was very personal and sincere. Makes me smile a
lot… that, and a picture I took of my mom and sister. My mom is sick with cancer
and that photo means a lot to me.

favorite people can get even better this year, that was good.

John:
Tough question… Jet Black Crayon “Inaccuracies Of The Mind Machine” is very
good.
Sweden makes some good music. I like a lot, but let’s say that The
Concretes and Komeda are enjoyable for the ear. SF Local: Jet Black Crayon.
/>

/>

me. Mom gets lung cancer. Opening of Low
Gallery

beautiful girl all in one day

Flying Fortress: Chimp243 and Ichi243
surprising me with their visit on island Mallorca on my birthday holidays!!! i

snowy landscape outside

Craig: Besides the war ending in Iraq…I’m
not sure.

Bucky: A whole bunch of advertisers for 2005, lol

/>What is your New Year’s wish?
/>
Swoon: this year i am looking for a clearer understanding of what needs
to be done to move ourselves out of the political social environmental dark ages
i think we are approaching, seeking compassion and decisive action at the same
time. or maybe you were looking for a more concrete, less hippie-dippie answer?
impeachment anyone? sounds delicous.

John: A year better than last…
Another election to oust Bush. Maybe they’ll impeach the goofball.

/>Amir: Not to get a 9 to 5

Flying Fortress: not growing older.
/>
Craig: To be less negative and less judge-mental

Bucky:
Bigger circ and staff, animating the Three Thug Mice

style="font-weight: bold;">How will you be spending the Holidays this year? /
What will you be doing on New Years Eve?

Swoon: making
something with my little brother maybe, and lighting it off.

John:
Home in Ohio with family playing with nephews and drinking with old friends… New
Year’s? Shit, maybe I should throw a private little New Year’s eve Party @ Low
Gallery. That’s a good idea… Then after midnight stumble around bars in the
Mission or over to someone’s house party. Howl at the moon about 5am.

/>Amir: Hopefully cuddling it up with a certain cute redhead in bed with laptops
in our laps.

Flying Fortress:  going to barcelona with my friends.
barcelona is the law!

Craig: Driving cross country with my wife to
our new home in LA. We might be in the
Grand Canyon at that point.

/>Bucky: In style with friends, drugs, and art. New Year’s is overrated, but
hopefully I will be smoking a huge spliff with the ANIMAL crew.
