“Dad Sticker” - An Explanation

/>From Sam Hammington:

“A while back you put a piece on your
site about obituary street art, and I’d like to submit to you this sticker that
I made. And obviously the basic premise behind it. I’ve always had a great
appreciation for street art, but had only viewed it, never partaken in it.
However my Father passed away quite suddenly in July of last year. I’m currently
located in Seoul, Korea while my father was living in NZ and as such didn’t see
or talk to each other as we would have liked to. Obviously it came as a huge
shock when he passed away. After which I went into a downward spin, depression
and was at a real loss. More than anything I wanted to make some sort of
memorial in for him, while leaving people at a loss as to what the sticker
really means. I wanted it to almost be a topic of conversation or contemplation,
and as such made it as simple as possible. Using a photo from the last time I
ever saw him alive, with the relevant years. In his passing it has inspired me
to attempt my hand at more street art, and hopefully I can get this sticker up
in other parts of the world. I’ll be hitting Aust and Japan sometime soon, so
hopefully the enigma will grow. Peace and respect to all those loved ones that
have passed. RIP BWH
