Catchin’ Up With… Toye
“I was recently down in New York painting a mural
inside the Carlton Arms Hotel at East 25th and 3rd. Last time I was down in NYC
was in 2002, so it was nice to come back and see the same spots are still being
rocked hard, in particular the abandoned building at Spring and Bowery, and all
over the lower east side. It was great to visit some studios and get inspired,
as well as drink 50 and whiskey with Andy Kehoe. Oh yeah - I also like the
burgers and milkshakes in NYC - mmmm tasty meat.
Most of my time was
spent working on the mural or writing music / recording sounds, but I had a
chance to get over to Wooster street and see what it’s all about. Stuck up some
new stickers me and my mates from studio thoughtcrimez put together for the
trip. I even got to see a sticker I put up last time I was down there.
/>So I’m back in the Canada now and Frend and I are getting super pumped for the
spring, which is warm enough to poster and paint. I’m working on some new art,
but mostly I’ve been getting ready new t-shirts, stickers and pins, and a top
secret fashion project that I will have to show you once it is done….. If you
want to check out some of my more recent stuff, or more pics of the mural - my
website is www.toyesm.com.
