“Best of 2003” ... Part V
Another terrific line-up this
morning. Today’s group includes CUE from So Fuzzy Crew, Michael DeFeo, Mjar
from Invisable Made Visable, Pez, Above, Nick Walker, and
Freaklub.
Favorite Event of 2003:
Charles
from So Fuzzy Crew: the
amazing pixacao tool incident - 1. Inventing an amazing pixacao tool out of a
ten foot retractable pole , a wire cable and a spray can so that i could scoot
around, retract my pole (ooh-er) and paint a big head 15 feet up off the ground
, controlling the spray can at the top by pulling the wire cable at the
bottom. 2. Getting stopped by the Special Branch Police who asked me “what
are you doing with a 10 foot retractable pole with a spray can on the end?” I
told them “I’m just doing a bit of painting on this building” “do you own this
building ?” “ur - no i don’t” “well we suggest you go home NOW and if we see
you around here again you are going to jail” “ok I’ll just fuck off home then”
“wait - we want you to break that pole too” “ok, here goes” SNAP…. no more
amazing pixacao tool. this was a bit of a humbling experience but I had an
amazing adrenaline rush as I left the scene of the crime and walked home. too
bad about the tool tho’ but im working on a 50 foot MK2 version don’t worry.

Michael DeFeo: Book

Shouts out to the Finders Keepers Crew for putting on such amazing shows and
shouts to all the artists who contributed work to each show. Looking forward to
more in 2004.
Favorite Artist of 2003:
Michael:
Takashi Murakami really stands out for me.
Charles:
Sigmar Polke.
href="http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/polke/">sigmar polke’s show at
the Tate was pretty amazing because of all the wacky materials he used and
the themes he was working on…. he did the show in Texas originally and a lot
of the images were taken from Texan newspapers…. it RULES.

Favorite New Artist of 2003 (an artist who you did not know of last year):
/>Charles: 818. i read
about 818 from Bologna Italy in wooster and love their work. Roberto from 818’s
coming to London and we’re planning to meet up and get creative… I cant wait.

Favorite Piece of Art of 2003:
Charles: Logan
Hicks stencil / painting this is bloody unbelievable… its stencilled in
multicolours and its massive… I saw it developing on the Stencilrevolution
site and it was amazing to see how it was pieced together with separate A3 (?)
stencils .... the man must have fingers and thumbs of STEEL ! nice one ... In a
time where conceptual art just fannies about and where more and more artists get
manufacturers to make their art for them, its nice to see somebody really
putting this much effort and skill into something…
src="http://www.woostercollective.com/images/loganbest2003.jpg">
/>Michael: Perhaps Murakami’s sculptural installation in Rockefeller
Center…this immediately put a grin on my face when I saw it!:
/>

Favorite New Product of 2003:
Charles: well ok its an
animal so its not a ‘product’ at all, but DAMN sugargliders are unbelievable… why? they’re super tiny, about
10 cm high they have massive eyes and look hella cute they only eat crack
PLUS….. wait for it…... they can FLY !!!! oh my god I couldnt believe that
they were real when i found out about them. PLUS….. they have two heads !!!!
unbelievable

src="http://www.woostercollective.com/images/boys2.jpg">
Michael:
This would have be the new eco-friendly cars by Honda and Toyota… they
have both gas and electric engines… with around 60 miles to the gallon, this
is a good sign that big industry is perhaps turning away from a dependance on
oil. And besides, bus-sized SUV’s suck!
Above: The product

local River…..ooohhhh It’s going to be a cold one! A wonderful way to break in
the new year upon us
Nick: Making horrendous smells and
blaming my kids, inhaling mince pies, drinking copious amounts of brandy and
throwing chocolates at crap TV. New Years Eve’s always a gamble when you got
nippers so that one depends on getting a babysitter…..What are the chances in
that then?
Pez: I dont know what be spending on holiday, i
