ABOVE’S EUROPEAN TRAVELS 2005. BRUSSELS, BELGIUM”
“Travel Light!!!
I guess only the First half
of that is true for my situation.
3 pairs of pants, 3 shirts, 4 socks, 2
cameras, and a pocket full of Ambition.
The second half of the story gets a
bit more complicated. I suppose the story about Brussels starts back in London
at the Eurostar Customs office.
Because of shipping costs I brought with me
from California about 500 wooden arrows on the flight to Europe. I knew it was
coming at somepoint considering I have just a single backpack and three large
boxes full of arrows. “Security Check Point” loves people like me. I get pulled
aside and asked about 13 questions…Who, what, where, how much. and Why?
/>“What’s in the boxes?”
“Just some wooden arrows”
(They open 1 of the
boxes…..Strange look on their faces…Confused….still Confused. Calls over
another “Security Check Point” Worker to take a look.”
“Did you make all
these?”
(Before I could answer they start joking about one of the plaid
patterns I have on the wooden arrow.)
“You know I once had a shirt just
like this….!”
“No, ummm I had no Idea.”
“So what are you doing with
all these arrows?
“Putting them on walls around Europe.”
(even more
confused than before…..a long pause, than a smile)
“Well than, get on and
get them on the wall!”
Brussels was definitely a fun city in all
aspects. Small hidden streets, lots of color, tasty food and drink, and what
seems to be no apparent buff from city workers. Tags, and Pieces were more
destructed by natural decay of rain and sun, rather than a naive city workers
brush. Brussels was a full of nice oppertunities, and options for any street
activist.
*Big thank you to Harlan, Malika, Annick, and Jean Pierre
all for your couches, conversations, and most of all your Support!”...

“Imagine, you
open a box and see all this junk….”

“Crazy how
things manifest. The owner of this house was a cabinet maker and had a nice
window display I was looking at. He saw me looking in the window at his work and
came outside to talk. He asked if I did wood work? Well sort of…I make wooden
arrows. I drew a picture of one of the arrows and he still didn’t understand. I
showed him some images on my camera and one thing led to another. The next day
I’m painting the Whole side of his house with arrows!”

“Location,
Location, Location. The Police headquarters are no more than 30 feet
across
the street. Real busy downtown street with High Visibility. Had to get in
/>and get out. Sloppy letters but nothing is perfect.”
