Catchin' Up WIth.... Swoon

swoonslov2.jpg

"i am writing from slovenia, building rafts again!

we are camped out in ankaran slovenia at a marina who's very kind and generous owners are letting us use their boat yard to build, and their jetties to launch our pontoons and continue building afloat. above are pictures of the first pontoon launch, the model for the new raft, and the new raft's deck in progress.

it's beautiful out here, the sea is intimidating, but there are lots of canals we can travel on windy days.

we're early in our build phase, but already the wonder and surprise on people's faces when we explain what we are up to is reminding me of why we do these things.

i made two small prints, the sale of which will help us buy food and fuel and tools and all the thousand spinning parts we need to make this thing real.

here's a link to them:

ok, wish us luck!"

ABOVE: GIVING TO THE POOR

Giving2thePOOR_LOWRES.jpg

From Above:

"Recently completing the 6-month long South Central tour's witty Word/Play paintings thru South and Central Americas my focus has taken a healthy transition towards figurative imagery. These new stencil works are universally understood and free from language barriers that often get lost in translation. When I was in Lisbon, Portugal 3 months ago I would walk by this homeless lady who was begging for money everyday. I found it sadly ironic that just 6 feet away there was an ATM machine where people were literally lining up to withdraw money. With an obvious visual clash of "Rich" and "Poor" being in such a close proximity evoked me to make this stencil "Stealing from the rich, and giving to the poor."

In a concept similar to "Robin Hood" I am taking an active role in helping those less fortunate. I am selling the "GIVING TO THE POOR" print at an affordable cost hoping to get as many people involved in this benevolent project as possible. 100% of ALL PROFITS will be donated to both these Homeless shelters. I have carefully selected these Homeless shelters because of each of their long-standing active role in the Homeless community. Each respective Homeless shelter stands out among others because they accept and strive to help those without a home regardless of RELIGION, RACE, POLITICS or SEXUAL PREFERENCE. "Catchin' up with..." Dr.D in London

frontshutters.jpg

"The guys from the MuTate Britain show came to see me about getting some posters up in London , I went to see the venue set in the heart of Shoreditch East London and was blown away. Warehouse space like this is fast becoming history as the whole of East London is becoming gentrified as more money pours into the area and in the name of the forth coming 2012 Olympics the street art and even the homeless are getting jet washed off the streets. The organizers let me get involved with some pieces inside the multi level venue and on the shutters on the front. I got the first of my series of Bent Commandments up on the front, 120 strips of paper and 8 hours work , it'll be changing as the show progresses .

It's exactly what a gallery should be, masses of artists (when I asked the organisers even they didn't know just how many people were involved, I've counted at least 50) no pretention and a warehouse full of the greatest variety of art, street to metalwork sculpture perfect bedfellows in this industrial venue.

I won't name check all the artists here because I'll forget and offend someone, check the flyer or the website, the organizers Garfield ,Liam , Mr E. Dawe and Spencer have pulled off a blinder here and deserve a name check along with the legendary Mutoid Waste company.

By the way , there isn't any connection with the other Tate except this is what the other one should be."... Dr. D

Catchin' Up With Nicholas Di Genova (aka Medium)

ms05-1.jpg

"Just want everyone to know that I'll be participating in artLA this weekend... Yup, I'll be flying down to LA on Thursday and staying until Monday, so if you're in the area, stop into the booth and say hello...I guess you'll have to find it first, I'm not entirely surewhere the booth will be... I'll be showing with Harvey Levine Gallery, a fresh new gallery in the area...Yup, more than a few of my heroes live and work in the LA area, so I'm pretty pumped...

Below is the flyer and above is one of the images I'll be showing...

Also, look out for a brand new mediumphobic.com site coming out soon, an awesome designer/writer named Daniel Barber is doing the site for me, and we're working on a video game together as well... Yup, but I'll let everyone know about that when its all done...

Catchin' Up With.... Urban Medium

urbanpdate.jpg

From Urban Medium:

"It's been a crazy past few months, but we're back on the grind. Two things we wanted to share -

One, this wall we did with a local ATL writer (TEACH) - it's a mix of styles, paste & paint, the integration came out dope...and you can't front on the 8-foot Chewbacca!

And two, photographer Zach Wolfe followed us over the course of a day as we traversed the city bombing stickers. We shot well over 9,000+ hi-res photos, spliced em up - and spit out this sixty second preview of the results...no video cameras here, all individual shots. http://www.heavyammunition.com/video

I hope people didn't think we left LA for good. We've got a solo show going down Saturday Feb 11th at the project: gallery in Hollywood (http://www.heavyammunition.com) - it's going to be a gallery show like no other...our work plastered all over the place, with live performances from LA's top underground hip-hop DJ's & MC's.

Thanks for your support - EVERYONE needs to cop that Wooster Comix #1...the art is amazing."

CATCHIN' UP WITH.... THE SO FUZZY CREW

CATCHIN' UP WITH.... THE SO FUZZY CREW

From CUE : Hey Wooster, at the moment im working on ideas for a new diffusion t-shirt line just based around the SFC, all the ideas are floating around my head and making me lose sleep. I have been working on some full size canvasses just based around the Pure Evil Rabbit in different moods, the last one was a kind of Basquiat/Lucio Fontana combo with 'THE FEAR' cut into the canvas... a very dark little rabbit... I've also been finding chairs and painting them and just leaving them on the street , just for a laugh...i also did a big Fuck off 'WAR IS SO LAST CENTURY' mural in the east end of London which was a laugh to do as it was in rush hour and i had to just bust it and then leave the scene...Im working on images for the new PICTOGRAPH 2 book, which is cool because the first book was inspiring ... also im working on ideas for a hotel interior in Miami which will be SWEET if it comes off... i want to create a SOFUZZYCREW club room. I've also been sewing more toys for Stackhouse on Lafayette (watch that space) and making jackets out of 1950's belgian camo trousers, mailing boxes of clothes to Japan, listening to a lot of Metal, thinking about visiting Brazil again and wishing i could find a girlfriend ... CUE"
