One Not To Miss: New York Launch Party for “Stickers” (Tonight!)

STICKERS_BarbaraKrugerZeitgeist.jpg

Over the last few years, there’s been many books to come out that showcase stickers from around the world.  Some have been quite good. Some not so good.

This month Rizzoli is releasing what we consider to be the best and most definitive book to date on sticker art.  The official title is Stickers although it’s better known as Stuck Up Piece Of Crap. Written by DB Burkeman with Monica LoCascio, the book includes introductions by Shepard Fairey and Carlo McCormick.

Whether you’re a punk, skater, graffiti artist, musician, clothing brand, political activist, fine artist, or just a fan of a band, stickers have always been the perfect way to express oneself.  Starting with Andy Warhols Banana sticker for the Velvet Underground & punk sticker in the mid to late 70s & early 80’s, the book chronicles their development through different eras, such as Californian skate culture from around the same time, early Hip Hop, graffiti tags, Techno/Rave culture in late 80s & early 90s, recent political & controversial subjects, right up to contemporary fine art & street art today.

Congrats to DB and Monica for putting out a true labor of live.  If you are in New York, the book is being launched with a terrific event later tonight (Thursday) Info below:
