BREAKING NEWS: IS THIS THE SPLASHER AND HAS HE BEEN CAUGHT TONIGHT AT SHEPARD FAIREY'S SHOW IN BROOKLYN?

By taking his desire for attention to a new level, has the "Splasher" actually been caught tonight while trying to sabotage Shepard Fairey's high profile opening in Brooklyn?
Here's what went down a few minutes ago:
Two young guys entered Shepard Fairey's opening night party at 81 Front Street in Dumbo with a backpack. Moments later they were seen attempting to light a homemade stink and smoke bomb that was hidden in a coffee can. As they were setting it off, two guys nearby saw what was happening and managed to stop the guys from igniting it before it went off. Seeing the scuffle, the security guys hired for the evening caught one of the two guys (shown above) while the other was able to get away.
So as we write this the police are now detaining the guy as they figure out what, if any, charges to file.
So why might this be connected to the Splasher?
For the last few weeks speculation has been circulating amongst the art community here that is was the Splasher who lit off a similar stink bomb at the Faile show a few weeks back in Nolita. Going beyond it just being a practical joke, the guy who lit the stink bomb then called the police informing them that there was a gas leak in the building. Minutes later fire engines arrived and the show was cleared out.
One thing seems clear - there are two motivations that have been driving the Splasher. Attention and a jealous desire to sabotage and ruin the work of well known artists who have gained a certain amount of notoriety. It then makes sense that after gaining a ton of press over the last few weeks, that the Splasher would try to take things to another level by not only ruining the artwork on the streets of people like Faile and Shepard, but by getting even more attention for ruining their gallery shows as well. Since it would be all too obvious to walk into an art show and throw paint on the wall, why not then attempt to close down the show by causing a panic?
Obviously at this point we don't know if the guy above is indeed the Splasher. But in the next couple of hours we expect that now that a photo has been shown of the guy caught tonight for trying to sabotage Shepard's show, that more of the story will come out.

Every Image Has A Story - "Punker Girl"

From Fauxreel: "This image with the Punker Girl was put up at Rockhouse, which is a concert venue in Camden. Apparently it's where the first punk show took place. While I was putting it up, one of the trustee members saw me,
commented me and said that it would stay permanently because it was the perfect fit to comment on the history of the facility. I thought that was cool and a definite motivator."

Every Image Has A Story - "Remember Who You Are"

From Chase: "After a few years of getting weathered, it was time to touch-up and re-paint my little girl on main street in Santa Monica. She is part of my "Remember Who You Are" campaign, a public service I provide where I paint young children in the public domain with the text next to them saying: "Remember Who You Are". Children represent the closest stage in this lifetime to the Essence and have not yet been conditioned by today's world. No wonder they are so full of Love, Joy, Wonder, Peace and Truth.
The intent behind the "Remember Who You Are" installations is to stimulate the general public to re-consider and re-member with their inner child."
Later tonight, Chase will have a solo show in Los Angeles at Xin Boutique, located at 8064 Melrose Ave. The show goes on from 8-11pm.

Jace Goes To Jail

From Jace - "Some weeks ago a guy called Christian called me to build a project: painting some stuff in an old dirty jail in the south of Reunion Island. Luckily the jail manager was ok to let me get in and do my own stuff . I went there for two days and painted 5 pieces in the corridor and different common places (i will probably come back and paint some inside the yard). Technically it was really strange cause I used a ladder and I had to be vigilant to avoid any escapes!! Some prisoners knew my work and were really pleased to see it coming inside their place ! The guards enjoyed it too, except one touchy guy who didn't want to get back in his office. It was so crazy he saw my angel and demon upon his wall and was offended cause his colleague joked at him and compared him to the devil! He began to be angry and asked me to cover my characters.
The manager arrived and became furious with the guy, i thought they gonna fight, it was so crazy !!!! Some guards separated the two persons to avoid the fight, oh man ! It was so weird to watch people react like that for a picture !!!! The director promised me that ALL the painting gonna stay for a while.... Believe me or not but jail is not "a place to be" even with gouzous ;-)) !!!

ABOVE's SIGN LANGUAGE TOUR: NEW YORK CITY, USA.
"After traveling around 25 countries in Europe It was time involve New York City with the Word/Play Arrow Mobiles and general mayhem. Ever Since Giuliani and the 9/11 events the streets of NYC are flooded with undercover cops making getting up sometimes difficult. I know this because I got nicked by 2 undercover cops and ended up spending 20 hours in Central Booking Police Station. A Huge Thank you to RIPO and George for Bail out of Jail and the Hoopty Who's!".. Above

Nice High tops in Little Italy.

It was the middle of December and no one seemed to notice the Mistletoe they were standing under. I constructed these doors to swing open and block out the surrounding viewers and act more as a private kissing booth than an art piece. "HIDE" was inside doing just that, while "SEEK" was outside getting all of the attention.

The Telephone Box

Kathrin writes: "i send you this picture of a faked telephone box in Dortmund, Germany. It seems that the artist created it specially for this place. He added the address of the house where he put it: neuer graben 67.
When i saw it the first time, i liked it immediately, because the "telephone box" seems to stand by with the little stationery shop which is there since many years, but has less and less customers because of big stores in the City Centre. now with the imaginary telephone box seemed to be underlined the function of the shop as a point of reference for the quarter."
