What's Currenlty Inspiring You?... Part IX

From Blek Le Rat:

"I am in this time inspired by the twelve gods of the antique greece. For the Greeks the  gods did not create the universe neither the world but the universe create gods. It was a time where the imagination was arousing and were the reason did not controlled it. In those times anybody could see a nymph escaping through the trees. The reason came later with the christianism....   I was in Firenze in Italy last month and over there the antique statues are outside in the squares of the city. This is incridible. the Italian peolple live with those statues like the Romans lived with them two thousands years ago. The time do not exist  in this  beautiful country."... blek

From DHM:

"I think all stuff around me is inspiring me, even my own shit. but mostly the stuff I see on the net, like this amazing work ofJeff Soto. His colors, caracters and skills...damn, I wish I could do that. everybody should check out his work, if they didn't already know it. Cheers"... DHM

From Pure Evil:

"The photos of Nirvana by Charles Peterson ... he totally GETS the raw energy of the band...I love the destructive energy of Nirvana they FUCKING ROCK. I've been doing big paintings of Nirvana for a show Im doing in 2 weeks....  its going to kick ass

London England...BIG INSPIRATIONS

1. Sitting in the street next to silver mini's drinking and checking out people...

2. Policemen on Horses going down my street...

3. Bloated Rats by the side of the Thames. I have a friend who's a sculptor and she has found thousands of animal bones by the side of the Thames...They're ancient, and they collect under the bridges... she uses them for massive bone chandeliers. Its just WEIRD that rivers are supposed to bring life to a city, yet they also bring so much death drifting in. (morbid thought)

4. Art shows in independent galleries... this week I've seen the skull/motorcycle helmet (modern art), a massive sand zen sculpture machine (white cube), and a video of a vulture in an artists studio (haunch of venison) and theres a mountain of other shows out there...

5. Swedish girls who arrived in London a week ago are always a BIG Inspiration too."... Pure Evil

What's Currently Inspiring You?... Part VIII

From kgbe rotgut:

"Recently my main inspiration has been the act of drinking extremely cold Budweiser tall- boys in my basement while listening to the Boston RedSox on the radio.

I've been painting houses this summer (and have a pretty solid farmers tan, by the way) up in Providence, Rhode Island and as soon as I get home every day, really getting the hell out of the wet, hot, New England summer and drinking freezing cold American beer while undoing five years of New York City sports talk conditioning is my first and only priority.  It also inspires me not to get heat stroke as much which is a good thing.

For a while I was also getting inspired by winning money at the dog track up at Lincoln Park but then that stopped being inspirational and became terrible."... kgbe

From Mysterious Al:

"What's been inspiring me? A trip to Barcelona for sun, Ice cream and good friends cured a long stint of 'artists block'. I was getting seriously pissed off with my recent lack of motivation, but I literally haven't stopped working since I got back... What else has helped me along the way? Listening to a LOT of MF Doom has inspired me to start working on a top secret new project. It involves him, and the internet- and all will be revealed shortly. Doom is the hardest working MC / producer around. His style is sloppy and raw, and he is always off beat. If you haven't heard his shit already you're cheating yourself. Danger mouse's bootleg of Zero 7 / MF Doom "Somersault" is my tune of the summer. Try and find a copy. Support independant music! I'm also inspired by my pimp-cat, Morisson- and cats in general when they do cool things. Peace!"... al

What's Currently Inspiring You?.... Part VI

From Dan Witz:

"Summer's my street art season, so lately I've been busy, consumed, frantically getting the new work out and up before it gets cold outside and I have to retreat to the studio. I love summer but I'm so busy I've got no time or energy left for much else than work. Which is a good thing. Fortunately though, thanks to the Wooster Collective, inspiration's easy to find. Every few days I check in and check up on what everybody's been up to. Actually, it's kinda overwhelming. I gotta say I worry a bit that street art's become so fashionable that it's bound to go out of fashion, but that's life and I'm not gonna fight it. I just scroll down the site and refuel, suck up the energy-- each crazy scheme, each artist, each crazy cockeyed dreamer out there recharges me and kicks my butt back outside to fight the good fight.  I loved the "Schmoozes", the loony tunes compulsion of it, and the honoring of the long tradition of hitting the steps to the Met. Very fulfilling, like we have a history. Reminds me of an early inspiration: Sandy Skoglund.

The thing I like about the Wooster check-in is it's  comforting to know there's fellow lonesome Giacometti dogs like me out there wandering the streets. It's like support--what I need to hear while I'm struggling with the setbacks and self doubt of my current projects. "... Dan

From Vinnie Ray:

What's inspiring me right now is thinking about the break up of my favorite band, Phish. The following letter is Phish's announcement for ending it. The following pictures are just a glimpse at what IT was . This band has influenced me on so many levels. They pumped out 20 years of positive vibes. ---vinnie ray

"Last Friday night, I got together with Mike, Page and Fish to talk openly about the strong feelings I've been having that Phish has run its course and that we should end it now while it's still on a high note. Once we started talking, it quickly became apparent that the other guys' feelings, while not all the same as mine, were similar in many ways -- most importantly, that we all love and respect Phish and the Phish audience far too much to stand by and allow it to drag on beyond the point of vibrancy and health. We don't want to become caricatures of ourselves, or worse yet, a nostalgia act. By the end of the meeting, we realized that after almost twenty- one years together we were faced with the opportunity to graciously step away in unison, as a group, united in our friendship and our feelings of gratitude. So Coventry will be the final Phish show. We are proud and thrilled that it will be in our home state of Vermont. We're also excited for the June and August shows, our last tour together. For the sake of clarity, I should say that this is not like the hiatus, which was our last attempt to revitalize ourselves. We're done. It's been an amazing and incredible journey. We thank you all for the love and support that you've shown us.-- Trey Anastasio"

The flatbed truck: Unannounced instrumental ambiance at 3am. This is the closest real life has come to the dream world.

From dist.one:

"I have read a few of these and sort of struggled to pin point one thing that truly inspires me as my mind doesn't really focus like that...it changes rapidly due to the anxious overactive way it works. So I thought maybe a list of stuff might be better as inspiration comes in waves from a cornucopia of things...so here goes folks:My cat Margot, Kelly's Heroes, Joesph Heller, Roald Dahl, Ian Brown, Beastie Boys, Rivers, Trees, Tony Soprano, William Cutting, Barry Mcgee, Doze Green, Bigfoot, ghosts, Yoshitomo Nara, Woodgrain, Bark, Elephants, Southern Comfort ( the film, neh the booze ), Deliverence, Hayao Miyazaki, Forests, Ron Kovic, Dispatches, Country walks, My mother and father, and my beautiful lady, Charlotte.Okay hope that has cleared up a few things....as I sort of just wrote what was in my head at that moment...remember it changes constantly and thats how it should be for everyone....for best results feed creativity a balanced but varied diet for a healthy and vibrant artist.Take care of yourselves".... dist.one

What's Currently Inspiring You?... Part V

From Other:

1. clutter, junkyards, layers

2. sketching old machinery in abandoned factories

3. boxcars...rusty silent monolithic boxcars from far away...brazilian boxcars, mexican boxcars, canadian boxcars, little tiawanese boxcars. as all the train tracks in this city are slowly getting ripped up, just seeing boxcars is getting rare

From buZ Blurr:

"Laid low by the extreme heat of a Mid-south summer, and the numbing despair of the endless casualties of the Iraq morass, a recent renewed correspondence with E.F.HigginsIII, summering on Lake Michigan, shook me out of the dolor to cut a stencil portrait from a nostalgic time when I could afford the gasoline to escape these wretched hot climes and visit him. A momentary inspirational respite from my rocking chair retirement. "

From Milkcrate:

"right now the work of Jeff Soto  is getting me going, his skill mixed with the adolescent edge of the robots is top notch. jeffs character places his character in a world of words and other assorted things that dont belong and still manages to get a cohesive piece every time, the backrounds blend into a horribly beautiful atmosphere that sets up the perfect alien world for giant robots and turtle gods alike.
