"Best of 2003"... Part IV
Another great line-up this morning. Today's panel includes Chris Silva, Caryn from Sixspace, Kelly Burns, Jace, Ignorancia, Crackrock Bestamaxx and Amir from beautiful/decay magazine.Favorite Event of 2003:

Chris Silva: The coolest, strangest thing was being given an empty storefront in the middle of downtown Chicago for the entire month of April. I collaborated with my friend Mike Genovese and the public got to watch us work, the animals in the art zoo. We probably watched them more than anything though.
Jace: My trip in Madagascar
Caryn (from Sixspace Gallery in Los Angeles): Mark Ryden's 40th birthday gala (Jan), The Stray Show Art Fair in Chicago (May), Laura Owens show at MOCA, getting my dog (May), meeting Mike Watt (Sept), and celebrating my five-year wedding anniversary (Dec.)

Kelly Burns (I NY): I won't lie... I NY book launch at the New Museum was my favorite event of 2003. Aside from that- the opening of a group show at Longstreet Workshops in London, featuring 5 up and coming Brits: Peter Walsh, Gabrielle Le Cocq, Mark Emblem, Joey Sharp, Andrew Gardiner.
Favorite Artist of 2003:
Crackrock: MF Doom and his 55 aliases
Chris: I have a renewed appreciation for Twist. I'm having some struggles with direction, and being very critical of doing the same sort of thing over and over again approach, but I don't feel that it's overly strategic on his part. It seems really authentic and soulful, and that's encouraged me to ease up on myself when I catch myself automatically drawing my birds and such.

Amir: Lari Pittman
Ignorancia: Thomas Campbell
Kelly: 1.) Peter Walsh - multi-media concept artist, forever pushing you to re-examine what you think you know. 2.) Gabrielle Le Cocq - video artist. Her latest (and most brilliant) video "Straight out of Brompton" debuted at the Longstreet show. Remember these names... they're going to be huge.
